The candidate will carry out his/her project under the direction of an oceanographer, Stéphanie Jacquet, and in co-direction with a researcher in Information and Communication Sciences, Brigitte Juanals.The work will be performed in collaboration with the "Parc National des Canlanques" and the "Agence de l'Eau".The candidate will be attached to the MIO laboratory and will join the Chemistry team (CEM).He or she will work on the Luminy campus, Oceanomed bulding, in Marseille, but will also travel to other parts of the region, in particular for field case studies and possible sea trips.The research project to be proposed concerns the study of metallic contaminants of the submarine discharge of the effluent of the Gardanne alumina plant in the Cassidaigne Canyon (Parc National des Calanques, Mediterranean Sea).The research will combine marine chemistry and communication to address the question of the impact of the industrial effluent on the marine environment.The thesis will be part of the interdisciplinary research work "INTERFACES".The thesis will combine, by mobilizing different methodologies and disciplinary tools, an expertise on marine environmental issues with the ability to report on environmental and health conflicts while designing a scientific communication interface for use by civil society.The candidate should have skills in oceanography, marine chemistry or environment, and interest in scientific communication. Strong concern for contamination and pollution of marine coastal zones issues.
