Job Purpose 

This role is based at our Lymedale support centre. This is the number one priority of our ‘brilliant basics’ in HR is to pay our people accurately and on time.  This role is critical to achieving this.  The over-riding purpose of this role is to deliver outstanding payroll administration and payroll services in line with SLA’s taking responsibility to ensure our people can totally depend on us to pay them accurately and on time every month.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Deliver all pay related administration and service which does not fall into the responsibility of our managed service payroll provider.  This could include the following list, which is indicative and not exhaustive:

• Managing the time and attendance data extract files to achieve data transfer on time, accurately and as efficiently as possible

• Running pre commit reports to check accuracy of payroll recognising how essential it is to pay our people correctly and understanding the impact on our people if we don’t

• Running reports to audit accuracy of data appreciating that if the data isn’t up to date it will impact on our people

• Data cleansing to ensure the data is always correct and up to date and capable of driving accuracy of information in everything that we do using our system

• Keying exception data

• Managing exception payments keeping in mind that one of our people is relying on you to put something right quickly

• Managing any payment stops

• Supplementary run administration

• Working closely with the Distribution Centre scheduling team to ensure pay is accurate

• Key point of contact for Distribution Centre  payroll queries

• Payroll document management and filing recognising how important it is to always be able to locate information quickly when needed

• Working effectively and efficiently within the payroll cycle – ensuring our customers are always fully aware of deadlines and their associated responsibilities

• Up skilling colleagues to have up to date knowledge and competence to use the Vault self-service and scheduling tools effectively and accurately to aid deadline compliance and accuracy of data input / submission and most importantly helping our people to help themselves Using initiative and judgement to identify continuous improvement opportunities and to act upon them

• Maintaining payroll policy and process documentation to reflect current practice

 

Technical and Behavioural Skills

What technical skills will you need?

• Understanding and experience of payroll processes and systems

• Understanding and experience of HMRC rules and guidelines associated with payroll

• Strong numeracy skills and ability to manage large volumes of data

• Good knowledge of Excel

• Good knowledge of MS Word

• Good knowledge of outlook

What business skills will you need?

• Great attention to detail and an eye for accuracy

• Very organised and methodical

• Extremely numerate – loves numbers and can make sense of large volumes of data

• Articulate, Good communication skills – verbal and written

• Great at problem solving coupled with sound judgement

• Can understand and make sense of data and apply learning

• Good customer service skills / customer focused

• Able to work to deadlines and understands the importance of doing so
