Patient Care Technician - PCT - Oncology Unit

Work Schedule: 7:00pm-7:30am, three shifts a week with rotating weekends and holidays. 36 hours per week.

Work Location: Ascension Macomb Oakland Hospital - 27351 Dequindre Rd, Madison Heights, MI 48071

Unit Description: 45 beds on the unit, our average daily census is 35. We have post-op surgical patients, typically gall bladders, weight loss surgery, ENT surgery and handful or orthopedic surgeries. We get med-surg admits including COPD, diabetics, patients going through withdrawal and/or needing medical clearance for psychiatry placement.  We do get oncology patients but typically 1-2 a month. This unit has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in bariatric surgery. 

This is a collective bargaining agreement union position.

What You Will Do

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision in assigned area.

Aid with entry and exit of patients.

Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.

Report findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.

Document necessary records.

Responsible for keeping patient rooms clean and orderly as well as maintaining medical equipment.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Basic Life Support Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA. 

Education: 

High school graduate or equivalent is required.

Completion of, but not limited to, one or more of the following areas required:

Certified Nurse Assistant program, or one or more years hospital experience as a Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate program, Medical Office Assistant program or other direction care vocational training, Current Co-op Student, Nursing Student enrolled in an accredited RN program and has completed the Fundamentals of Nursing.

Work Experience: 

Previous experience in direct patient care required.

Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

Additional Preferences

Med surg experience preferred not necessary.
