Job Description

As Paralegal for U.S. /Canada and Global Commercial Law Center of Excellence, your responsibilities will include:

  • You will provide support for assigned U.S./Canada Business Unit(s) and/or sub-Business Unit(s) and the Global Commercial Law Center of Excellence with transactional support for a wide range of routine contracts for the US and Canada, such as confidentiality, consulting, procurement, customer, etc. with a focus on supporting and enhancing the Customer Experience initiative through timely turn-around and responsiveness to internal client needs.   As part of that focus, this position will also work with the US/Canada Sales Documentation team to track and provide metrics for the efficiency & responsiveness of the Legal department. 
  • You will review and redline documents, engage in contract negotiations as appropriate, spot issues and flag matters for escalation to a Legal Department attorney for review, answer questions related to contracts, resolve issues, and work with the Legal Department, internal clients and third parties, possibly including customers, as requested.
  • As a member of the Global Commercial Law Center of Excellence you will support the contracting service center for all Regions, the development and implementation of global contracting playbooks and templates, as well as work on assigned Corporate projects.
  • In addition, the paralegal will assist the Vice President, Governmental Affairs, with tracking and responding to global customer Sustainability inquiries and requests, collaborating closely with other functions, geographic regions, and facilities.
  • The paralegal will also be the primary contact for company service of process, which will include appropriate routing of matters to other members of the Legal Department
  • The paralegal may also support litigation management activities, including responses to subpoenas, records management, etc.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts in other regions, Corporate, Compliance, IP and Regulatory in order to build a more collaborative global Legal support model.
  • Cultivate a work culture of operational excellence to enhance the Customer Experience and Commercial Excellence.
  • Collaborate with other legal partners to identify gaps in services provided to business divisions.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Highly motivated and capable of high-volume quality work in a dynamic, international environment.
  • Highly organized professional able to move multiple projects forward simultaneously and have flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and timeliness related to such projects.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of paralegal experience, or 10 years of paralegal experience.
  • Paralegal certificate or other degree authorizing work as a paralegal.
  • Paralegal experience with a focus on contract review in an in-house corporate environment highly preferred. 
  • Exposure to sales, R&D, manufacturing or similar contracts and environment is helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Take initiative and balances that assertiveness with good judgment in prioritizing matters and knowing when to escalate issues for attorney review.
  • Demonstrated ability to spot issues, understand contract language and analyze information and understand the impact to Ingredion’s business.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team as well as cross-functional environment.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, internal clients, and external vendors or customers.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills with well-organized and structured work habits.
  • Resourceful and able to manage a high volume workload of contract reviews per month.
  • Easily adapts to change.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, electronic contract data management systems, and proficiency with Microsoft  Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
