Job Description

The Packaging Innovation Engineer role will be responsible for supporting the development and optimizing robust processes for new and existing beverage packaging at our Package Engineering Technology Center located in Atlanta.  This includes activities related to operating Plastic Injection & ISBM (Injection Stretch Blow Molding) equipment to develop and validate processing conditions, implementation of new technology, and creating intellectual property.  The engineer will also work to ensure that the pilot equipment is ready to support the daily demands and partner with the technical staff to further key R&D initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

The Packaging Innovation Engineer will support Atlanta Package Engineering Technology Center, including but not limited to:

  • Develop plastic processing guidelines, identify innovation opportunities related to process and performance

  • Document process learning’s and publish processing reports.

  • Operation of injection and blow molding equipment

  • Establish set-up, profiling and start for new and existing bottles; assists in troubleshooting bottle profile problems; utilize SPC to identify and drive process improvement

  • Practice 5S to organize tooling, molds, change parts, etc., to achieve workplace requirements

  • Participate in process transfer and start-up at beverage plants as needed

  • Stay current with industry trends on the latest ISBM capabilities to further the value of investment from Coca-Cola.

  • Collaborate with concept creation and design teams internally to integrate technical expertise early in the design process.

What You’ll Need:

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Related Work Experience: 

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience (experience with plastic molding for beverage industry or similar would be an asset)

  • Strong mechanical & machine knowledge of leading supplier’s equipment and operation

  • Good understanding of material-structure-property relationships

  • Analytical testing experience and Quality background would be desirable

  • End-to-end knowledge of beverage packaging manufacturing and KPI’s

  • Strong ability to work independently, solve problems, and drive to winning solutions
