As the Packaging Engineer reporting to the Manager of Packaging, you will provide technical expertise and leadership on the Maximizing Value and Productivity (MVP) Team, a strategic cost function of the R&D organization. You will independently conceive and conduct research to influence scientific knowledge and technological developments, assessing feasibility and soundness of proposed experimental approaches, materials, or equipment; then stage projects for execution.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Explore packaging design changes across multiple platforms including Snacks/Baking, Frozen/Refrigerated, and Grocery, working with brands across our portfolio.

  • Independently lead packaging development projects to meet the needs and expectations identified by management and customers.

  • Build and present business cases for packaging design changes supported by financial assessments, technical feasibility, customer benefit impact analysis, and risk assessments.

  • Participate in ideation sessions with cross-functional partners to generate design solutions.

  • Scout and evaluate new technologies and supplier capabilities to identify viable options for material and process improvements, maintaining a high awareness of competitor and adjacent trends within the packaging industry.

  • Demonstrate creativity in the development of packaging systems, promoting the spirit of innovation across networks.

  • Build on an understanding of strategic packages, materials, and processes to help develop new or improved packaging systems.

  • Complete experiments and plant trials; prepare results in technical reports and presentations for review.

  • Interpret and develop technical specifications.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Engineering or related field.

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Agile, flexible, creative, curious and collaborative.

  • Knowledge of packaging material capabilities and packaging equipment interactions.

  • Exhibit leadership and open-mindedness in approaching technical solutions to business and market issues.

  • Knowledge of test methodology (ISTA & ASTM) and practical application.

  • Travel up to 20 - 40% of time.
