Cox Communications is searching for an OSP Engineer III to provide engineering and technical support for Atlanta Teams as well as our systems across the country. You will be based out of Atlanta and travel will be required as needed to support field operations. Expected travel could be as much as 30%.

You will work with both Center and regional engineering and leadership to develop, support, and ensure compliance of Cox’s OSP operating standards including Network Powering. You will work with other OSP Engineering staff and boundary partners to assure optimal operational performance for the RF and fiber optic networks with a focus on the powering solutions for HFC and FTTH deployments. In this position, you will work directly with the field HFC Performance Engineers, OSP Construction Engineers, and other boundary partners to ensure that Cox always delivers quality products and services. This position will have a primary focus on the powering aspects of the coax and fiber plant.

  Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions: 

Ensure operational readiness, RF/Optical performance, and integrity in the OSP across all Cox network delivery systems to support the reliable delivery of RF and optical signals from the OSP network to the customer premise.

Partner and support any field or Center driven performance investigations.

Provide planning, deployment, testing and certification of products, solutions and services needed to support the delivery of Cox services to the customer.

Assess the performance of the existing RF / Optical infrastructure and ensure that capabilities are in place to meet future service demand.

Provide technical support and training to systems to address cross functional challenges of all services in the network.

Collaborate with technology vendors in the defining and development of powering network elements for both coax and fiber networks.

Support field trials for new coax-based technologies, FTTH applications, small cell deployments, and beta testing of new service platforms associated with network integrations.

Support RF/HFC lab by interfacing with Atlanta and system engineers and vendors to test and qualify power related products and/or resolve RF technology related issues.

Provide guidance towards publishing technical operating specifications and technical requirements to improve network powering performance.

Works close with systems to manage and coordinate material and outside contractor requirements.

Manage and support Cox network transformation initiatives.

 Qualifications:

Minimum: 

5+ years of experience in related field (i.e., RF/HFC Engineering, MTC configuration and training, RF signal analysis and troubleshooting, Plant Sweep alignment, Headend/Hub Site operations, etc.).

Working knowledge of HFC ISP / OSP configurations including RF / optical distribution and transmission.

Working knowledge of System Design Maps and the powering network.

Technical expertise on power supplies and their design.

Technical expertise on network powering concepts including Power Factor Correction concepts.

Technical expertise to support engineering projects and corporate operating design specification compliance through testing.

Ability to analyze and troubleshoot RF and optical related problems in the network delivering sound engineering conclusions.

Excellent understanding of the technology standards and specifications related to RF equipment, transmission systems, CATV systems, network management, and monitoring equipment as related to telecommunications systems.

Experience with broadband optics, troubleshooting and applications along with understanding of FTTH.

Demonstrated knowledge of RF engineering concepts and performance calculations.

 Preferred: 

BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., Electrical Engineering, etc.).

Professional Engineer Certification.

Experience working in a CATV or Broadband operating system.

Operational understanding of RF and laser transmission techniques, equipment (including an understanding of laser loading).

Operational understanding of how networks are powered.

Operational understanding of RF modulation and test equipment associated with RF measurements.

Complete understanding of RF spectrum utilization and the ability to provide guidance and proper distribution of content.

Understanding of over the air frequencies used in satellite, broadcast, and communications transmission.

Understanding of customary construction techniques and how Cox services can/would be delivered to customers
