Job Description

Responsible for planning, organizing and directing activities of associates in Food & Nutrition Services department to ensure safe, smooth and efficient operations and providing the best patient experience possible.

Operations

  • Plans and administers activities of the Food & Nutrition associates to ensure continuous operation and timely delivery of services. Establishes priorities, assigns work, and monitors performance, quality and timeliness. Assigns and reassigns work based on workload and daily priorities.

Leadership

  • Gives direction, motivation and guidance to the Food & Nutrition Services Department to accomplish established standards to meet or exceed customer satisfaction.
  • Functions as a resource to staff and hospital team members.
  • Directs and monitors all patient and retail operations to ensure services are consistent in each food area.
  • Coordinates and integrates the administrative aspects of the food service operations to provide a quality program with the development of short and long ranges department plans and goals that are consistent with the organization and department policies.

Communication

  • Communicates clearly and effectively with direct reports, the hospital team, the immediate supervisors, and interdepartmentally.
  • Demonstrates effective oral communication skills in the following: active listening, assertiveness, providing feedback/coaching, team building, and conflict management.
  • Demonstrates effective written communication skills in written reports.
  • Attends administrative meetings and participates in assignments as requested.
  • Works closely with the internal department managers to ensure continuous communication related to consistency of operations.
  • Proactively reports pertinent feedback to client contact & ABM Industries Regional Director of Operations in a timely manner

Fiscal Accountability

  • Assists the Director in ensuring that the assigned site is maintaining its fiscal responsibilities and operating within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Facilitates, creates, distributes and maintains all necessary reports and documentation for the multiple sites. Assures that Monthly and Hours Reports are consistently accurate and on time.
  • Plans and implements staff scheduling, position controls, and attendance control procedures.
  • Assures all supplies/equipment are purchased through approved vendors and stay in budget.
  • Responsible for budgetary compliance to maintain positive variances; is proactive in areas not in line with the budget and participates in the budget process as required.
  • In a collaborate effort, develops management and associate schedules within the budget and monitors management staffing to ensure all positions are filled; moves/adjusts schedules as needed to maintain service levels in all operations.

Data Utilization

  • Assesses and utilizes appropriate data in order to improve operations. 
  • Views everything with a process improvement mindset.
  • Reports all pertinent data to System Director/Director and ABM Healthcare Corporate Office in a timely manner.
  • Completes all required facility and ABM Healthcare weekly and monthly reports in a timely manner; presenting information to be submitted in a neat and professional format.
  • Confers with facility directors and manager regarding the technical and administrative aspects of the nutrition services department.

Service Excellence

  • Ensures that the required ABM Industries support standard operation procedures are in place; facilitates the implementation of department policies and procedures to ensure programs meet the goals within a clean and safe environment for all service areas.
  • Promotes a customer service mindset at all times to both internal and external customers. Knows who all the customers are and initiates & maintains positive relationships with them. Responds with a can-do attitude. Follows up on requests with a sense of urgency.
  • Supports TQM/Customer Services, Initiates, develops, facilitates, & monitors the process for customer service improvement initiatives and suggests new methods that lead to better service.
  • Demonstrates commitment to achieving patient satisfaction and employee engagement targets for the organization and department(s).
  • Monitors training programs to ensure compliance and completion within given time frames; conduct in-service training as required.
  • Monitors facility to ensure compliance and consistency of information is included and posted on the Quality Boards.
  • Establishes positive, effective relationships with hospital administration and medical staff. Attends scheduled facility management as required.
  • Attends professional meetings and conferences to keep informed of current practices and trends in the food service field.

Human Resources

  • Develops/coaches associates to ensure fullest potential is reached.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, development, performance evaluation and management of employees within assigned departments.
  • Ensures work assignments and schedules meet department and facility needs to maintain quality standards.
  • Monitors the maintenance of employee files, time and attendance records, and corrective action process; aware of and enforces all Human Resource procedures as noted in the employee personnel manual.
  • Participates in annual evaluations, ensuring reviews are completed per facility and ABM Industries guidelines and time frames.

Safety

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations and safety policies/procedures.
  • Ensures department compliance with all regulations and policies.
  • Follows Universal Precautions/Infection Control Procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA Privacy Action, maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Monitors service, food production, sanitation, and safety; identifies problems and directs staff as to corrective action to resolve and prevent occurences.
  • May participate in hospital and/or ABM safety committees.
  • Other duties as assigned

RESPONSIBILITIES – NON ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains a professional appearance at all times.

Minimum Requirements

Education/Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant management experience is acceptable.

Job Knowledge/Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of three years of proven work experience in a leadership role within the Healthcare field is required.

Preferred:

  • Work experience in a leadership role within an acute care setting.
  • Work experience in a large academic medical center.
  • Experience directing/managing a unionized workforce is strongly preferred.

Other:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An intermediate level of proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and other business software.
