North American Utilities Director- Decatur, IL

This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

This is a key position within the ADM Global Utilities Center of Excellence, reporting to the Global Utilities Director, specifically responsible for leading efforts within the North American geographic region. This individual will lead North American cross-functional teams devising and driving strategies designed to reduce operations carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency and reduce water usage. This role will manage regional Utilities Center of Excellence functional leadership, focused on Boilerhouse and Cogen, Energy Management, Water/Wastewater, and Electrical Engineering, driving operational excellence, efficiency, compliance, and safe operation in ADM locations. This individual will be part of the Utilities Global Leadership team and will maintain a close working liaison with counterparts in other global regions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish regional targets and develop/manage the initiative portfolio driving achievement of energy efficiency improvement, reduce carbon footprint and lower water intensity for operations.
  • Guide research and promote new technologies that optimizes operations, driving lower cost, greater efficiency and improved sustainability of operations.
  • Develop/execute regional/business unit strategies to achieve world-class performance in Utilities costs and reliability
  • Guide Utilities SME’s during capital project development and design review processes
  • Manage a team of engineering professionals, some remotely, in multiple disciplines.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with multiple disciplines and various levels of management
  • Drive personal and professional development of the team..
  • Champion ADM safety, health, quality, environmental policies and programs.

Critical Knowledge:

  • BS Engineering in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or equivalent; Advanced degree is a plus
  • Financial acumen including experience rationalizing and evaluating capital investments
  • Utilities management or operational experience in Energy Intensive Manufacturing setting
  • Understanding of energy/environmental related policies, regulations, and permitting
  • Depth in NA energy markets, policies, procurement methods and strategies.
  • Experience with energy efficiency and climate improvement programs and related incentives
  • Familiarity with emerging and existing renewable energy and decarbonization technologies
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or other Operational Excellence programs a plus

Critical Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to drive development and compliance with SOP’s and safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain and drive compliance with jurisdictional code requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, assess, and provide opportunities for process optimization.
  • Perform overnight travel (25%.)
