Job Description

O2 offers customers one single consolidated provider for all their IT and communications needs through Legacy O2 Wifi, O2 Unify, Legacy O2 Gateway, Enterprise and VDC customers.

 

Your Role:

 

To provide 3rd  Line Technical Support and 24 hour call out on a rota basis for the infrastructure Supported by Enterprise Tier 3 Network Support – Data Networks (Enterprise and Production networks) and Security platforms including Cisco and Juniper Routers and Switches, Firewalls and F5 Load balancers. To be involved in Network Migrations and rebuilds, reviews, faults, issues.

 

To manage / investigate faults escalated to the Enterprise/Wifi Core Network Support team escalating where necessary to the equipment Vendors. To provide workarounds and processes for 1st level and field engineers.  To manage, coach and mentor support engineers to increase their Technical and Managerial skills.

 

To accept new solutions from Engineering into the live environment ensuring that they are fit for purpose before going live through the OAT/ORT process.

 

To review and verify solution documentation, comment, identify and challenge the solution where required.

 

The role holder must be at Cisco CCNP level of qualification or equivalent and have at least 7 years’ experience supporting a large IP Network in an ISP and enterprise environment.

 

Responsibilities:

 

To advise and participate during the introduction of new network elements and/or features liaising as necessary with other Telefonica departments and Vendors, providing on-site technical support when required.

 

Provide Second/Third Level Support for the Data network infrastructure, predominantly IP based networks (Enterprise and Production networks) and firewalls and other security platforms.

 

Provide On call Support 24*7 on a rota basis

 

Identify any inadequacies with existing infrastructure and processes and propose recommendations to improve the existing infrastructure and work practices.

 

To represent Enterprise/Wifi Core Network Support in project definition workshops, Platform Change Control, Operational reviews and meetings with other departments as required.

 

To advise and participate during the introduction of new network elements and/or features liaising as necessary with other Telefonica departments and Vendors, providing on-site technical support when required.

 

Skills & experience:

 

  • Experience implementing configuring, tuning and supporting Cisco, Cisco Nexus, Alcatel and Juniper Switches & Routers & Wireless Access Points

 

  • Implementing configuring, tuning and supporting Cisco ios-xe, ios-xr, Juniper EX/MX/QFX series.

 

  • Implementing configuring, tuning and supporting Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and WCS.

 

  • Implementing configuring, tuning and supporting Cisco ASA, Fortinet & Juniper Firewalls

 

  • A solid understanding of routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, Vxlan, Evpn, STP) and VPN Services.

 

  • A solid understanding of MPLS protocols/technologies

 

  • A solid understanding of Layer 2 concepts in a data centre environment.

 

  • A solid understanding of Network, including WLAN and Security best practices.

 

  • A solid understanding of F5 load balancers

 

  • CCNP or equivalent for Networks

 

  • CCISP or equivalent for Networks

 

  • CISP or equivalent for Security

 

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as on self-managed tasks.

 

  • Ability to take the lead in co-ordinating restoration of a service (in a pressurised environment), where expertise may be required from a number of engineers from different disciplines.

 

  • Must be able to operate in pressure and stressful situations, whilst maintaining a clear and confident decision making aura.

 

  • Ability to convey complex technical information, in a manner that Senior (non hands on) Management can easily interpret.

 

  • The job requires a flexible approach to working hours, which will include night time and Weekend work.

 

  • To obtain the appropriate level of Security clearance required, in order to have access to elements carrying Public information.

 

  • Knowledge or experience working in other support organisations within O2 or other Companies is desirable.

 

  • The job requires the ability to co-ordinate many current large tasks and make good technical and business judgement first time. Errors in judgement could result in major revenue loss and short or medium term service or revenue restrictions. 

 

  • Working unsociable hours and occasionally away from HQ at short notice are also requirements for this job.

 

  • The ability to act as a SPOC in an On-Call, and being the point of escalation for all Wifi Core, VDC Network and Major Service faults.

 

  • Provide design consultancy when required.

 

  • Experience of working in a managed services environment is desirable

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication Skills.
