Mobile Tech Lead (iOS or Android)

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely.

 

Wealth and Personal Banking Technology has experienced significant growth and change within recent years. This has driven the need for us to undertake a strategic review of our current Target Operating Model and Organisational Leadership Structure. The creation of the newly defined Value Streams (VS) and Sub-Value Streams (SVS) will drive joint delivery of business outcomes through deep partnership between Business, Markets, Technology and Digital. As a result of these new changes, we are seeking a talented Value Stream Mobile Tech Lead to join our team.

 

The Tech Lead will work with VS Delivery Managers, VS Product Leads and VS Engineers to support the VS Tech Lead to deliver capabilities and features on Mobile. The Tech Lead champions the Mobile Platform’s specific engineering practices throughout the Value Stream.

 

What you will be doing;

  • Provide oversight in your discipline as a senior engineering lead, enabling teams to deliver whilst having the right technical approach.
  • Be an advocate for HSBC's Mobile Standards and other initiatives and work with teams to ensure they adhere to the Definition of Ready and Definition of Done.
  • Demonstrate engineering patterns that enable teams to solve complex engineering problems in simple ways.
  • Work with a diverse Engineering leadership team to define the strategy for how engineering is done in your discipline.
  • Ensure that technology risks and opportunities are identified, managed and resolved appropriately.
  • Identify strategic ways to reduce technical debt, working with teams to ensure they are continuously improving.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team and ensure that Engineering is well represented to create great outcomes.
  • Proactive collaboration in the project team to help develop the product using your experience to help guide the team through the whole development lifecycle
  • Hands on with Planning, estimating, contributing to the architecture, coding, development
  • Refactoring and continuous improvements of the code bases is vital.
  • Focus on software quality and delivering quality throughout the whole process
  • Ensuring that technical decisions and information is communicated through the global team
  • Taking responsibility of releases and contributing to the ongoing support of the live apps.
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets

Requirements

What you will bring to the role; 

 

To be successful in this role you should have;

  • Solid experience in Mobile Engineering
  • Hands on experience on using Kotlin/Swift to develop Android/iOS App
  • Deep knowledge of Apple’s HIG, design best practices, coding and naming guidelines
  • Good knowledge of software design patterns and software architecture principles
  • Experience in building Universal Apps that support different layouts for iPhone and iPad
  • Experience with UI automation (any tool)
  • Experience as a technical expert on the Mobile platform and competency with industry standard libraries
  • Very good with UI and Core Architectural Design patterns
  • Solid experience in writing Unit Tests and UI tests, must be familiar with either Junit, Mockito, Espresso or XCTest
  • Experience with source code versioning tools, specifically GitHub
  • Deep experience working on a team of Android and iOS engineers building and maintaining large scale apps, or apps that you have built personally
  • We promote a DevOps culture so you will need to look beyond pure programming and get involved with the deployment and operation of the software we build.
  • Experience of pair programming.
  • Credibility and ability to influence stakeholders convincingly with well-considered logic.
  • Knowledge of agile project management with cross functional teams, using Jira and Confluence.

 

This role is based in Sheffield or Leeds.
