The Boeing Company is looking for a Mid-Level Software Test Engineer to join the team in Huntsville, AL.

The Software Test Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that is immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to support all phases of the Software Test Life Cycle from Requirements to Testing to Verification Closeout.  

This position will focus on all aspects of Software Test to develop a product that supports Functional Test and Checkout of the Core Stage and Upper Stage of SLS. This role will include opportunities to interface with the EGSE Team and other disciplines within the program to rigorously test the EGSE Software and even support the EGSE system for functional testing of the rocket.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team environment for test development

  • Hands on experience in understanding software test requirements and developing of test procedures and analysis of test data.

  • Develop test procedures to validate requirements on 1553/422/Ethernet communication protocols on Linux and or Windows base OS,

  • Release or support the release of all Test Procedure and QLR/FTR Reports

  • Writing test scenarios and test cases, logging defects and test reports.

  • Executes test scripts and test protocols

  • Perform automated and manual test execution to support IDR/FDR/RFR.

  • Develops and deploys tests or inspections and data collection techniques.

  • Analyzes test, inspection or statistical data and troubleshoots anomalous result to determine product and processes conformity or assists with corrective action recommendations.

  • Supports requirements verification traceability.

  • Consult with customers to clarify and refine requirements.

  • Experience in checking out code from version control – SVN

  • Communicate both in writing and verbally to support status reviews and reporting of test findings, issues and risks

  • Perform all tasks per program plans and schedules for implementation

  • Support change control process for tracking and management of problems and changes to applications during testing

  • Report risks and issues to the test lead and the test manager

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry

  • Experience developing test execution scripts and using test automation tools to maximize automated testing

  • Experience creating and documenting test plans/procedures, executing tests, analyzing results, and/or creating test reports

  • Experience using excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with leaders and colleagues in an engineering environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 4+ years as a Software Tester/Developer or in test and verification for a complex integrated system (i.e. Rocket or Missile).

  • Experience with software Test Development on a Linux/Redhawk CentOS/ or Windows environment.

  • Good programming knowledge on more than one of the following languages: C#, JavaScript, VBScript, Python, Perl or other

  • 1553/422/Ethernet communication protocols

  • Experience of modeling and simulation

  • Hands on experience with HDF5 data.

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experence (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a talented and innovative Software Test Engineer (level 3) to join the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) diverse and multidisciplinary Software Test Team in Huntsville, AL.

Our team work with customers to develop and document complex Software Requirements and Test Procedures for  the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS).

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to/beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions.

Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite. This position is a Ground Systems and Integration position on our Space Launch Exploration Upper Stage team, enabling NASA to send large co-manifested payloads and along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program.
