Microbiology Laboratory Quality Systems Manager – Decatur, IL
This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

  • Lead implementation and maintenance of ISO 17025:2017 accreditation in the microbiology laboratory for a central lab that services 20 + internal food manufacturing facilities within North America.
  • Lead implementation and maintenance of ADM’s Global Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Act as document control specialist for the microbiology laboratory.
  • Act as subject matter expert and support internal/external customer relationships with matters as it relates to the laboratory QMS.
  • Ensure compliance to biosafety, EH&S, and regulatory standards.
  • Support hands on routine testing of microbiology laboratory.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead implementation of ISO 17025:2017 accreditation in the microbiology laboratory.
  • Act as document control specialist for microbiology laboratory.
  • Ensure compliance to regulations and microbiology Laboratory Quality Management System including creation of microbiological laboratory standard operation procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead implementation and maintenance of ADM global laboratory standards.
  • Assist with integration/interfacing of the Quality Management System in legacy and upcoming ADM computer systems.
  • Participate in auditing to ensure compliance and identify GAPs within the QMS.
  • Lead continual improvement initiatives.
  • Lead development of training materials and deliver training for laboratory personnel on laboratory quality management procedures, and principles.
  • Assist as needed in response to customer complaints and lead actions to resolution
  • Maintain project timelines (implementation of new testing methodologies, new equipment, execution of studies).
  • Assist with establishment of laboratory key performance indicators.
  • Support hands on testing of microbiology lab.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in implementation of Laboratory Quality Systems (e.g. AOAC, ISO 17025:2017).
  • Collaborative leader that emphasizes teamwork and a positive attitude.
  • Independently motivated with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Willingness to innovate and adapt best practices.
  • A BS degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
  • 5 + Industry hands on experience in a microbiology laboratory in a related field, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with electronic systems.
  • Understanding of internationally recognized microbiological testing methods (e.g. AOAC, ISO, FDA, HEALTH CANADA, USP, USDA, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in validation/verification of alternative microbiological testing methods in support of environmental monitoring and finished product release programs.
  • Domestic travel is minimal but expected.
