The main role of this position will be to support the development of the thermodynamics team on spark ignited four stroke engines. Secondary responsibilities include supporting engine calibration activities. You will:
Assisting engineers in development of base engine hardware and calibrations for power, emissions, fuel economy, and part throttle combustion stability
Support engine testing on the dynamometer and boats In addition to a great hands-on learning experience you will also acquire the skills needed to:
Ability to convey technical concepts in an easily understood manner, both verbally and in writing, requiring clear and concise verbal and written communications.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Strong mechanical aptitude (engine knowledge is a plus) and creative ability; self-motivated; ability to work under general supervision.
CAD skills are a plus; Pro-E is the standard system.
Basic computer skills; word processions, spreadsheets, data base, and E-mail.
Ability to specify information of material selection, finishes, dimensioning, and tolerances. Mental/Cognitive: Requires math skills; reading, weighing, and/or measuring; analyzing data and drawing conclusions
Qualifications of a successful candidate:
Current enrollment in a BS program with a major in Mechanical Engineering emphasis. No Technological Degree candidates will be considered unless noted.
Minimum second semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits
Availability to work full-time (40 or more hours per week) through a full co-op term running January to August 2021 or June to December 2021
The ability to enroll in a formalized co-op Program through your university
