Job Purpose

Salary: Â£27,000 

Base Location: Liverpool, Brunswick Dock, L3 4EL

We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Technician (with Electrical bias) to join our North West Operational team.  Based at the fantastically central location of Brunswick Lock, your role will be maintain and repair M&E structures, plant and equipment to protect and enhance the reputation of the network as a valued national asset, and the provision of customer service.

As a Mechanical & Electrical Technician on our waterways you will play an important role using your technical expertise to assist with the programme of planned preventative maintenance, dealing with repairs and reactive tasks within a defined area, working on automatied assets. 

A technical foundation in Electrical installation/maintenance or control systems level 3 qualification or above with C&G BS7671 wiring regulations 17/18th Edition. C&G 2391-10 Inspection & test is desirable but not essential.   

You will be required to work Monday to Friday – 37 hours per week, agree to participate in a team standby call/out system 1-4. Company vehicles are provided for on-call urgent response. 

Location & Coverage

Reporting to our Brunswick Dock, Liverpool base, this role will involve regular some travel across our North West Region to support work on other structures and assets.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

M&E Technicians support our aims to improve safety across our waterways network through a variety of daily maintenance tasks and activities. Your skills will be used to ensure we continue to manage & improve the safety of our waterways infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Work safely ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities.
• Support the delivery of a M&E maintenance and repair program ensuring all waterway infrastructure is well maintained e.g., automated locks, bridges and servicing/repairs to plant and equipment
• Provide mechanical and electrical support to assist in the resolution of mechanical and electrical situations as they arise.
• Working under supervision provide and support the delivery a first level of response for reactive works, at all times, to ensure the safety of customer and the availability of the network.
• Working to a planned timetable, inspect, monitor and report on condition of M&E assets. Maintain appropriate data including recommending fitness for purpose. Input results of inspections into SAP via notifications.
• Supervise third party and contract works 
• Provide customer service through operation of the Trust’s assets in a safe and timely manner and responding to customer enquiries to maximise customer satisfaction e.g. dealing with customer questions whilst working for the Trust.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Good Maths & English skills 
• C&G level 3/NVQ3 minimum or equivalent Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• C&G BS7671 17/18th Wiring regulations, C&G Inspection and Test.
• Experience in hydraulic systems is desireable but not essential

Work experience - Proven experience of delivering works on time and to specification. Some experience in customer service would be adventageous. Proven safety related experience or recognised safety qualification.

Skills - Good interpersonal and communication skills. Full driving licence.

Safety - Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards, report incidents, accidents and near misses. Assess the risks and make adjustments to work methods where appropriate. Ensure all equipment (PPE, plant, materials etc.) is appropriate for the task. Consider your own and others behaviour.
