Incumbent gathers hazardous and nonhazardous waste generated by the various plant operations. Prepares chemical waste for shipment and is responsible for the function of the chemical waste building. Also manages the flow of recyclable material throughout the building.
1. Collects hazardous waste from various areas of manufacturing departments for either recycling or disposal; classifies hazardous waste; places waste into proper containers and ensure that they are properly labeled for disposal.
2. Segregates hazardous, non-hazardous, universal waste for proper storage and labeling.
3. Collects and separates returnable and non-returnable drums. Collects and separates any reusable and damaged pallets.
4. Prepares full drums for shipment by tightening caps/bungs; assists truck driver with loading.
5. Collects & separates scrap metal to classification. Maintains record of scrap material drums, pallets, and corrugated material counts and records data.
6. Provides and ensures proper labels are completed and placed on all containers of hazardous waste, nonhazardous wastes, and universal wastes.
7. Signs waste manifests that ensures contents and quantities of outgoing chemical wastes.
8. Ensures the chemical waste building meets the required EPA rules by performing weekly inspections and maintaining compliance.
9. Requires RCRA hazardous waste certification. Maintains knowledge of hazards and nonhazardous regulations in dealing with chemicals.
10. Incumbent obtains re-certification in hazardous waste Transportation Material Handling as required.
11. Delivers virgin material received in accordance to various manufacturing operations as needed.
12. May perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities.
13. Based on business need, assists/supports in other job functions within processes within scope and ability.
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2. 0-2 year’s previous experience required.
3. Must possess a RCRA hazardous waste certification.
4. Must be able to obtain a powered industrial truck license within 8 weeks
5. Must have good interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical skills and aptitude and logical problem solving skills necessary.
6. Ability to work independently in a safe and timely manner necessary.
7. Must be motivated towards productivity improvements, safety and quality awareness.
8. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
9. Must be able to operate a general power tools
Working Conditions:
Manufacturing environment. Incumbent work under minimum supervision and work indoors and outdoors and is exposed to all kinds of weather. Lifts up to 50 lbs. frequently and is exposed to dirt, grease, inks, and solvents. Must wear department required safety equipment as required by Company, State, ad Federal Regulations.
