Marketing & Communications Manager

(National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire & Anderton Boat Lift in Northwich, Cheshire)

 

Did you know some episodes of Peaky Blinders were filmed at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port, as well as Tolkien’s The Hobbit & The Antiques Roadshow?

And did you know that Anderton Boat Lift was built in 1875 and still carries narrowboats 50ft up in the air, and people travel from all over the world to see it?

 

Both of these amazing places can be found right here in Cheshire, alongside the wonderful rivers and canals of the Canal & River Trust & we have an opportunity for a dynamic and transformational Marketing and Communications Manager…. Does this sound like you?

These iconic venues are so unique, and so special, that we are on a mission to ensure that visitors have a fantastic welcome and a memorable visit, and this is where the Marketing & Communications Manager will excel.

 As a member of the Destination & Attractions Management Team, you will spearhead the strategic direction of the marketing and public relations for both Anderton Boat Lift and the National Waterways Museum, monitor the success of all campaigns, and assist to drive performance of the teams. Through the delivery of a dynamic and exciting marketing strategy, you will be focusing on increasing our visitor numbers, and our income year on year, whilst retaining customer excellence as our number one priority. You will be ensuring that our digital marketing is ‘second to none’ and supporting the whole North West region of the Trust in driving their digital presence. You will need to balance prioritising our new and returning visitors, with supporting & developing your colleagues to ensure customer excellence. You will support your colleagues, including many volunteers, to ensure all our events and activities are the best they can be, and have a leadership style that can inspire, motivate and support.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop and devise the marketing strategy and programme to reach our target audience, maximise awareness and increase footfall to the museum
  • Oversee the PR and communication activity and evaluate the Advertising Equivalent Value using Media monitoring techniques.
  • Oversee the social media platforms and forums
  • Promote the events and exhibition calendar to attract new and repeat visitors
  • Manage the marketing activity throughout the year and evaluating its success at the end in terms of the visitor numbers and spend per head. Undertake market research and monitor to the visitor profile
  • Attract print and broadcast media to promote and engage with our activity
  • Effectively manage the marketing budget
  • Co-ordinate activity with the marketing and communications team across the trust
  • Manage a small team and consultant, as and when appropriate
  • Responsible for the application of the Trust’s line management procedures within the team. Undertake appropriate recruitment and selection processes for permanent and seasonal teams, performance reviews, resolution of employment issues, development planning, disciplinary investigation and action, absence management, expenses and overtime management.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviours at all times
  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promote inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values

 

Your qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualified to Degree standard in relevant subject, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Equipped with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Professional Diploma in Marketing
  • Current Membership of a Professional Body eg Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the media and volunteers and colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Knowledge and experience of developing audiences
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety Policy, Principles, Standards, Procedures & Guidance
  • Ability to travel - car cash allowance is offered with this role as regular travel between the Boat Lft & National Waterways Museum will be required.
