A Die Casting Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling will be a critical engineering team member in Mercury’s aluminum foundry (Plant 17) with responsibilities directly related to die cast dies and trim tooling.

       Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact with production planning, part specific manufacturing engineering, quality, operations, die repair, setup, and outside tool houses to resolve tooling issues and plan for tooling needs

  • Communicate tooling needs from within the plant to our outside tooling vendors Participate and assist continuous improvement activity related, but not limited, to ergonomics, ISO, Safety, 5S, and Lean Six Sigma

  • Understand die cast machine requirements as it relates to tooling

  • Participate in the tooling design, review, and approval process within Plant 17

  • Investigate, recommend with cost justification, and procure a tooling fleet to minimize tooling impact on production efficiencies and productivity

  • Coordinate tooling revision changes and improvements

  • Help schedule tooling deliveries and shipments, as well as repair needs, with help from production planning group and tooling vendors

  • Drive continuous improvement by tracking and monitoring tooling wear, suggestions and implementation of tooling design improvements, and planning for tooling and part end-of-life

  • Working with die repair to ensure spare and backup components are available

  • Implement customer product revisions by providing necessary changeovers in tooling and specifications

  • Participate in R&D work on tool improvements such as design changes, coatings, material selection, additive manufacturing, etc to drive long-term improvements in tools

  • Utilize data to drive improvements and decision making with tooling

Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Desire to be “hands on” at the shop-floor level within a foundry environment

  • Ability to produce results independently and within groups/teams

  • Knowledge of high pressure die casting and finishing operations

  • Mechanical aptitude  

  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with a proven record to effectively participate in a cross-functional team

  • Strong attention to detail, project execution, and time-management skills

  • Ability to excel in an extremely dynamic and constantly changing manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field

  • Ideally, but not required, 3+ years in die casting

  • Proficiency in MS office software including Teams, SharePoint, and Planner

  • Familiarity with CAD software packages

  • Team player who thrives in a foundry environment

  • Experience with tooling, specifically die cast tooling and trim tooling is a plus

  • Understanding of scheduling systems for tooling and interacting with outside vendors

  • Keep safety in the forefront of all engineering activities and decisions

  • Knowledge on running and analyzing FEA is preferred but not required
