A Die Casting Manufacturing Engineer will be a critical engineering team member in Mercury’s aluminum foundry (Plant 17) with direct responsibility for a specific family of castings.  They will lead die casting process and part improvements to ensure all internal and external customer requirements are exceeded. 

        Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical engineering support for all aspects of the die casting manufacturing process 
  • Be the subject matter expert for your family of castings
  • Lead continuous improvement activities focusing on quality, extending tool life, increasing trimming and finishing efficiency, reducing costs, and safety
  • Provide new casting program launch DFM input to tooling, simulation and project management groups
  • Maintain detailed tool maintenance & part quality records for each casting production run
  • Understand the effects that casting quality can have on down-stream operations like trimming, machining, leak testing, and painting
  • Comprehend casting & machining print dimensions, tolerances and CMM reports
  • Key contributor in the PPAP process

Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Desire to be “hands on” at the shop-floor level within a foundry environment
  • Ability to produce results independently and within groups/teams
  • Knowledge of high pressure die casting and finishing operations
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with a proven record to effectively participate in a cross-functional team
  • Successful project management and time management skills
  • Ability to excel in an extremely dynamic and constantly changing manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Ideally, but not required, 3+ years in die casting
  • Proficiency in MS office software including Teams, SharePoint, and Planner
  • Team player who thrives in a foundry environment
  • Understanding of CMM and other dimensional reporting
  • Understanding of machining processes on castings
  • Ability to read, review, and analyze process data to help troubleshoot processes
