The Manager, Risk Assessment and Toxicology will develop and apply novel toxicological approaches to scientific challenges common across multi-disciplinary teams within the Ingredient Safety and Risk Assessment function. The successful candidate will play a role leading and evolving the Company’s approach to risk assessment and will develop programs to ensure the Company’s ingredients and products are safe for their intended use. This work will occur in a technically challenging and globally diverse business environment involving regulators, consumers, and other key stakeholders. This position reports to the Senior Director, Ingredient Safety and Risk Assessment, and will be a critical part of the global team.
What You’ll Do
Build an understanding of toxicological issues impacting the Company’s ingredients and products.
Assist in the development and deployment of human safety risk assessments for the Company’s ingredients and products, with an emphasis on applying novel and traditional approaches to toxicological risk assessment.
Partner with cross-functional business teams and Operating Units to create scientific programs that will address both local and global scientific challenges raised by regulators and key stakeholders.
Share scientific expertise with selected external organizations to influence outcomes and advance our scientific and regulatory strategies
Communicate internally and to business partners on risk assessment outcomes and provide guidance on risk management where appropriate
Contribute to the evolution of TCCC’s approach to risk assessment/risk management to deliver the current and future needs of the Business.
What You’ll Need
Education Requirements:
Ph.D. Pharmacology, Toxicology or related discipline
Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT), preferred
Related Work Experience:
2-3 years of working in either the consumer product industry, contract laboratories, or consulting agencies specializing in toxicology
Functional Skills:
Demonstrated experience with the latest practices in risk assessment involving PBPK models, dose-response modeling, including benchmark dose software. Must have proven technical expertise.
Experience in estimating dietary exposures to food additives and contaminants using advanced modeling techniques. This includes practical applications of alternative or in silico assessment approaches such as Quantitative Structure -Activity Relationships (QSAR) or Threshold of Toxicological Concern
Experience in developing toxicity values (reference doses, cancer slopes, benchmark dose) based on technical reviews of toxicology and epidemiology literature. This includes identifying critical studies that will drive the toxicity values and identifying the strengths and weakness of those studies and any uncertainties in the studies or the literature overall.
Ability to develop risk assessment programs with special consideration of sensitive groups such as children, the elderly and those with underlying disease
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey scientific subject matter in a simple manner.
Experience writing clearly, both in scientific documents/publications and for lay audiences.
Strong understanding of GLP and OECD testing requirements
