Job Accountabilities
Crown Beverage North America is searching for a Manager, Production Engineering to join our team in supporting the fifteen (15) North American manufacturing operations for the Beverage Division. This position will work closely with the manufacturing facilities to analyze and solve production issues of major proportion, manage the 2-Piece aluminum beer and beverage can and end processes improvements and new technology. The individual will specialize on plant preventative maintenance and repair, tooling, down gaging, plant improvements and swing line operations.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
- Ensuring safety is a first priority
- Senior Manager will lead full-cycle management of engineering projects and engineering teams to include the design, initiate and implement capital improvement projects, bringing them in on time and within budget.
- Hands-on involvement with project and plant based assignments involving in all aspects of can manufacturing processes.
- Expectation of Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in many domains
- Ability to develop long term strategic plans for processes and equipment issues.
- Evaluation of existing equipment, processes and facilities to provide direction on CAPEX and Maintenance expenditures in-line with Divisional strategic plans.
- Involvement with manufacturing line design, re-design, equipment installation, troubleshooting, product line trials and other operations support roles
- Analysis of production problems and assistance in implementing solutions to these problems
- Provide training and direction in the start-up of new manufacturing processes, as well as leading plant technical personnel as required to complete equipment installations and start-ups, and lead various in-plant improvement teams
- Follow OEM/ Crown Maintenance practices
- Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal performance within the equipment limits
- Identify production problems, discuss solutions and implement fixes
- Ensure effective communication between departments and shifts on changes to equipment, production schedules or any other relevant information
- Work with Quality personnel and understand control issues a plus
- Applications of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
Job Requirements
Qualifications for success in this role include the following:
- Education, Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 7+ years’ experience in high speed manufacturing required. Experience in metal packaging and/or beverage cans required
- Extensive mechanical abilities and experience with equipment teardowns and rebuilds
- Certification in Six Sigma (Green, Black or Master Black Belt) desirable
- Extensive experience leading project teams
- Skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint as well as various CAD software to include MS project
- Proven problem solving skills and experience using analytical approaches to problems
- Project management experience
- Proven oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects to completion
- Ability to work effectively both as an individual and in a team environment using collaborative methods
- Ability to travel 70% throughout North America. Some international travel may be required
- Must be committed to ongoing personal training and development
