Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Manager, Policy and Projects for Wholesale Credit Risk Strategy, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

The Policy and Projects team within Wholesale Credit Risk Strategy have ongoing interaction and working relationships with the regional CROs for Wholesale Credit and Market Risk and their delegates, as well as representatives from the Global Businesses (CMB) and Commercial Banking (GBM)), Risk Governance, Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM) Risk Management, Internal and External Audit teams, Group Chief Accounting Office, and Group Accounting Policy and Standards (“GAPS”).

Working for the Senior Manager for Policy and Projects, the role will be responsible for the following but it is recognised that priorities may change over time to align with department’s objectives and can also be impacted by new, more immediate, regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a key risk participant supporting joint projects with Group Risk Analytics, Finance and other stakeholders on regulatory and reporting developments impacting Wholesale Credit Risk for credit rating assessments, Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) production including Parental Support Frameworks, Unfunded Credit Risk Mitigation, Multiple Risk Ratings and other Basel III Reforms related assignments
  • Set and oversee Credit Risk policies for loan impairment and forbearance monitoring and effectiveness measurement in line with accounting and regulatory standards, by close collaboration with regional risk teams, internal and external auditors and with GAPS
  • Be responsible for maintaining the completeness, accuracy and integrity of all relevant sections of the Functional Instruction Manual (FIM), whilst ensuring that content is reviewed regularly for accuracy and relevance to the needs of the business
  • Provide advisory support to the regional / country risk teams on matters relating to Wholesale Credit Risk policies
  • Be the interface with Group Internal and External Audit regarding matters relating to Parental Support, Definition of Default and Forbearance policies / practices
  • Manage responses regarding any audit findings or topics of interest raised, and be responsible for the satisfactory resolution of any findings and the prevention of repeat findings
  • Prepare executive updates / presentation on key policy changes for Senior Management
  • Assist in the preparation of written responses to the regulators / accounting bodies on topics under consultation / subjects under review affecting Wholesale Credit risk

Requirements

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Policy and project background
  • Educated to a degree level in a qualified field
  • Good general knowledge of IFRS 9 and Regulations impacting external disclosure for Credit Risk desirable
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal in English), planning and organization skills
  • Tenacity to follow issues through to satisfactory resolution
  • Ability to facilitate discussions on complex matters involving senior stakeholders across functions and geographies
  • Exceptional drive and commitment, ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and shown ability in handling competing priorities
  • A self-starter who is not afraid to speak up and face a challenge but open to listen to guidance and learn as they go
