Role Summary

The Manager Material Planning and Control is responsible for executing on the strategy and data analytics for material forecasting, repairs management, demand planning, and procurement actions in support of the Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) Division at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, this role leads and establishes priorities for cross-departmental teams in the assessment, strategy development, supplier evaluation and selection, contract oversight and negotiation of terms to meet cost, quality, and performance targets.

Key Duties

  • Leads team and establishes priorities for material control and repairs control activities to ensure parts and materials are available for efficient airline operations while maintaining appropriate economical levels of inventory.

  • Generate, review and monitor management level reports as a control system to track and highlight team’s progress towards departmental and divisional goals.

  • Ensures data mapping and data visualization appropriately measures material processes that meet the requirements of the operation and validate inventory management is efficient.

  • Executes on strategy to provide support to Maintenance and Engineering in the procurement and distribution of parts for scheduled maintenance, non-scheduled maintenance and fleet reliability activities.

  • Manages entire commodity life cycle, including source selection, vendor oversight, acquisition/disposition, and daily inventory purchases.

  • Sources material and negotiates with vendors for aircraft discrepancies, provides quotes to procurement to ensure we get the most value for our purchase, and reconciles and approves all vendor invoices.

  • Serves as the central contact point for all component repairs to ensure servicing of AS parts is done in accordance with AS policies that cover component maintenance, pricing, delivery, warranty, etc.

  • Supervises airline consignment vendors to ensure parts are sold with the best revenue opportunity for the airline.

  • Provides material support to heavy maintenance vendors for 6 to 10 lines of aircraft in heavy maintenance.

  • Reviews and approves the purchase of buyer-furnished equipment (BFE) for new aircraft acquisitions.

  • Provides approval and oversight for engineering control orders (ECOs) in support of fleet changes and acquisitions.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of material program, project, or vendor management

  • 2 years of leadership experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree

  • Demonstrated use of a strategic sourcing process including development of Request for Proposal (RFP) through contract execution

  • Experience negotiating high value contracts, specifically maintenance services and component repair

  • Experience with financial analysis of complex vendor proposals

  • Strong data analytic, data visualization and reporting capabilities

  • Excels in leading teams, facilitating meetings, and delivering presentations

  • Proven track record of sustaining strong customer/supplier relationships

  • Excels at change management and challenging the status quo

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) skills

  • Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 5 years of aviation maintenance experience

  • 5 years of supply chain management experience

  • 5 years of Lean Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, and CPI background

  • TRAX and Xelus subject matter expertise

  • Experience with aviation supply chain management, aircraft parts demand forecasting, and vendor management
