The Manager, Data Governance role builds the strategy and drives execution for enterprise-wide data governance, enabling business via effective use of data while minimizing privacy, security, operational and reputational risks associated with data. As a key member of the centralized, enterprise-wide program focusing on management of data assets, the Manager, Data Governance helps drive ownership and accountability for data across Cox’s data domains.
Further, this role collaborates with key stakeholders across business, technology and corporate functions to establish and implement governance framework & foundational practices (e.g. data lineage & metadata management, master data management, etc.) and to help drive technology enablers for data governance across data lifecycle. Via such collaboration, this role also drives privacy practices early in data & application life cycles helping establish privacy by design and enabling data minimization
. Primary Responsibilities Include:
Drives definition and execution of Data Governance & Enablement programs in line with changing environment, regulations and risks
Define policies, standards and procedures for governance and management of data assets across the enterprise
Interface with business units and various corporate & technology functions for activities such as obtaining buy-in for policies/standards, execution and enforcement of data governance requirements and driving associated KPIs
Develops/collects, manages and reports associated metrics.
Collaborates with data stewards on the above mentioned activities
Collaborates with other teams within the company (e.g information security, infrastructure, engineering, etc.) to drive technology enablers for data governance – these enablers include strategy, tools and technology associated with data protection solutions such as data loss prevention, identity & access management, digital rights management, controls for logging/monitoring etc
Provides leadership to program managers and analysts involved in data management efforts
Partners with Privacy Office to help ensure compliance to privacy regulations (CCPA, CDPA, etc.) by way of execution of data asset management standards and support for implementation of a global privacy controls framework, and monitoring and testing of those controls
Partners with Legal and Compliance teams to support development of data retention practices
Supports efforts to modernize practices for privacy by design & privacy engineering to move privacy early in data and application development life cycles
Works with business units and corporate/technology functions across the enterprise to support development, socialization, and execution of data management strategy as well as to enable business and product via appropriate management & use of data
Configuration of data governance, information management, and privacy tools inclusive of Informatica Axon and One Trust
Leads efforts associated with key data governance initiatives including but not limited to:
Engagement with cross functional teams to deploy data governance roadmap
Establishment and maintenance of data inventories, in partnership with enterprise-wide data stewards
Establishments and maintenance of data processes, data lineage, and data flows in partnership with enterprise-wide data stewards, data delivery teams
Helps drive data literacy across the enterprise, increasing awareness on various areas covered within data asset management
Qualifications:
Minimum
3-5 years of experience working in a complex technology driven business, and cross-functional environment, including but not limited to governance, compliance, security, application development, enterprise wide data –centric functions/initiatives, process improvement.
3+ years of experience in business facing roles such as Product Management, Program/Project Management, Client Services
Previous experience in telecom/cable/media industry
Previous experience configuring and operating data governance, privacy management, and GRC software, especially Informatica and One Trust
IAPP certifications: CIPM, CIPP/US, or CIPT
Previous experience with data retention policies and practices
Preference for experience in a similar role having set up of data governance program, understanding of cybersecurity and controls
Ability to read and document technical process flows with a focus on data
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively communicate across a broad spectrum of personnel – from technical subject matter experts to senior leaders
Ability to influence teams and outcomes without direct line of control
Experience in driving strategies and results via cross-functional, cross-border teams
Excellent problem-solving skills: Analytical approach to problem solving, including technical problems and organizational issues
Highly collaborative, constructive approach to driving results and resolving conflicts
