**This position is remote/work from home. You need to reside within the Eastern, Central or Pacific Time Zones.

The Manager, Data Engineering is responsible for leading a team of Data Engineers and Architects that provide custom data engineering solutions to a wide range of internal and external clients. Areas of focus include data acquisition services where data is acquired through APIs, website/application JavaScript tagging, file transfers and cloud-based data shares. Acquired data is then stored in a matrix of on-prem and cloud-based solutions depending on analytic and reporting needs. Lastly the team distributes modified or enriched datasets both internally and externally through a variety of distribution mediums.

 First and foremost, this leader is responsible for ensuring the morale, productivity, and overall health of the Data Engineering team while fostering an environment of continuous improvement and collaboration. This leader will successfully manage the team by defining professional development plans, deliver performance reviews and provide coaching to individual team members. They will be responsible for hiring, assessment, disciplinary and other managerial functions necessary to manage a high performing data engineering team.  

 This role is expected to be client facing, handling requirements gathering and scoping engagements with internal and external clients. Strong communication and project management skills are critical attributes of a successful candidate. This role will also act as a technical resource for the team, helping to train team members on the tools, technologies and processes needed to perform their job.

 

Works directly with individual team members to mentor them in advancing their role-specific skills and careers

Hold individuals accountable to expected levels of operational performance 

Actively seek and remove impediments to team success regardless of where they originate

Define and manage the process for designing, building, and launching new data acquisition, data models, data pipeline and/or data monitoring solutions

Define and effectively manage the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management and system reliability

Build cross-functional relationships with various Business, Operations, Product and Engineering groups to follow processes that ensures adherence to enterprise data standards, governance and acquisition principles 

Act as the client facing role for the Data Engineering team

Engage with internal and external clients to scope needs, generate Statements of Work and delegate action items to team members

Stay up to data with the latest coding languages and data acquisition/distribution tools 

Perform other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of relevant experience, (including designing and managing database and data warehouse solutions and moving and manipulating large data via ETL/ELT tools) including 1 year experience in people management OR an equivalent combination of education and work- related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Organizational, leadership, decision making and communications skills 

Cross team collaborations

Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

Experience implementing software quality and platform assurance/stability concepts  

Tag management solutions such as Adobe Tag Management Software, Google Tag Manager or similar Tag Management suite

Talend and Informatica experience

Coding languages such as Python, Java or Scala as it relates to transfer, manipulation, monitoring and cleaning of large data sets

Agile Software and Test-Driven Development methodologies   

AWS tools and services

Master’s degree
