Role Summary
The Manager, Construction and Planning plans, coordinates and builds new, rebuild and upgrade construction projects. Performs field engineering, creates efficient route designs and estimates costs. Allocates and activates fiber. Plans network splicing for coax and fiber optic networks. Obtains access and right-of-way agreements. Coordinates permitting and pole applications, joint-trenching, and make-ready for utility poles. Repairs and inspects Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks and ensures backbone is available for launch or deployment of products.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Reviews and approves all project designs and determines cost effectiveness.
Maintains workflow databases and updates schedules.
Participates in managing and estimating revenue forecasts, material planning, capital and expense budgets.
Establishes aggressive timelines for work to ensure project meets due dates.
Responsible for plant integrity by overseeing plant damage repair, aerial construction, construction upgrades, underground drops (new/rebuild) and the negotiation of contracts.
Ensures work-zone safety, work quality and customer satisfaction.
Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local commission and agency rules and regulations.
Oversees the placement and replacing of fiber, coax, and copper network drops and cables; minimizes backlogs and ensures timely installation/repairs.
Reaches out to other Cox locations/peers for sharing of best practices, lessons learned, reliability and operational efficiencies.
Hires, develops, coaches and sets performance goals and expectations for employees, conducts performance evaluations, monitors work flow, sets priorities and provides leadership to the department.
Oversees the scheduling of projects to ensure that objectives are met, maintains and protects existing plant, increases service options, expands the customer base, and increases revenues.
Maintains correct technical operation of the fiber optic network that transports analog and digital signals, HFC telephony and HSI.
Develops and negotiates contracts and obtains corporate legal advice when required. Ensures contractor adheres to project specifications and oversees their performance.
May oversee the splicing and activation work involving construction and repair of the fiber optic network.
May oversee the job functions of any and all activities within construction.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
7+ years experience in related field (Telecommunications Construction)
3+ years Telecommunications Supervisor experience
Valid local state Driver’s License with driving record that meets Cox Standards
Demonstrated experience driving employee performance metrics excellent interpersonal, teamwork, collaborative and creativity skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Preferred:
BS/BA in related discipline
5+ years Telecommunications Supervisor experience.
Experience with directly approving financial based projects/budgets
3 + years experience managing other leaders
3 + years experience in Telecommunications Construction
Versed in the Fiber Tech and Crewmen Dashboard and career progression
Knowledge in field safety requirements associated with vehicles, equipment, and work-space hazards
Knowledge in fiber routing, deployment and activation
