Role Summary

This role is responsible for the engineering and reliable operations of enterprise server, storage and backup platforms that support Alaska Air Group. As a people leader, the Manager Compute Platforms, leads the day to day support of Compute Platforms, ensuring a stable, secure, and highly performing operation. As a people leader, this role must also be able to promote cross-departmental collaboration and take lead in driving process and systems improvements, with a focus on operational stability and security.

Key Duties

  • Leads a technical team of on and offshore resources that are responsible for the integrity, availability, and disaster recovery of critical infrastructure through automation, process improvement, monitoring, and metrics-driven methodologies.

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

  • Manages all critical platforms to meet or exceed critical systems disaster recovery objectives.

  • Collaborates with other IT teams to improve systems support, monitoring, and administration.

  • Develops robust capacity planning and life cycle management processes.

  • Define the long-term strategy for Server Infrastructure, Storage Platforms and backup and recovery systems.

  • Leads and/or influences cross divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to Compute Platforms.

  • Writes business cases to gain support from senior leaders.

  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 7 years of experience in IT, or related area.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in a technical discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/ experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Experience with:

  • Windows server, Linux, VMWare, Storage and Backup platforms, public cloud architectures, Citrix, DNS, authentication, storage, load balancing, databases, virtualization, security, and related technologies.

  • Scripting and/or programming languages (PowerShell, Python, Ruby, etc.).

  • Leading teams to create automation workflows and self-service capabilities to increase velocity and remove infrastructure friction Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Terraform, etc), VSTS Build and Release.

  • Leading medium and large-scale projects.

  • Proven ability to build, coach, and mentor teams.

  • Adaptive leader, sensitive to the needs of the team, and creating a culture of belonging.

  • Loves learning and development, embraces the practice of service leadership, and builds teams that are engage, thrive, and deliver results.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
