Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Manager of Business Development at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The Manager of Business Development – LNG, a significant leadership position within the LNG Business, is responsible for developing and implementing the LNG business growth strategy to drive order intake and EBITDA growth.  This includes accountability for strategic development projects critical to the future of the business.  The incumbent will gather and analyze market data, competitor landscape, and customer requirements to establish and implement growth, acquisition and contracting strategies.  Reporting to the General Manager – LNG, the Manager of Business Development – LNG will collaborate closely with the technology, product development, and manufacturing teams to ensure market needs are translated into development programs.

NATURE AND SCOPE
Air Products is the world leader in providing technology and equipment for the liquefaction of natural gas.  Market reach is worldwide and includes products serving the entire range of LNG plant sizes from peak shaving plants to the largest plants in the world. 

The LNG Business is developing and executing a forward-looking business plan that includes significant growth commitments in Sales Revenue and EBITDA which will require rapid advancements of new products from the development pipeline into commercial offerings.  The Manager of Business Development will lead the development and implementation of this strategy.  Growth may include acquisition or licensed-in technology as well as commercialization of programs and new products currently in development.  Ensuring a product portfolio that meets market needs is critical to the long-term business profitability and market share growth.  Maintaining Air Products’ leadership position and protecting our proprietary technology and commercial risk profile are key factors to our continued success. 

The Manager of Business Development will utilize strategic customer relationships and market knowledge to achieve further technical and performance differentiation to drive EBITDA growth.  The incumbent will also have line management accountability for special development projects in our R&D portfolio.  Since this position is involved in all commercial aspects of LNG activities, the incumbent must have knowledge of contractual terms and condition, market trends, international business, and intellectual property protection.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for the following end results:

  • Responsible for LNG business growth strategy
  • Manage strategic customer relationships, set commercial strategy for new opportunities
  • Management of significant development programs key to business growth
  • Participate in or lead technology licensing or acquisition opportunities as required
  • Ability to lead though influence; Highly cross functional, requiring effective relationships within the LNG team and in the greater Air Products organization in order to achieve results
  • Drives innovation and comfortable with “white space” projects; strategic mindset and prioritization based on Air Products global impact (not just local business need)
  • Maintaining and enhancing Air Products credibility as the leader in LNG technology and equipment
  • Role model for Code of Conduct compliance and Safety Principles

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in engineering or technical field.
  • Understanding of accounting and finance
  • MBA preferred but not required
  • Minimum 5-10 years commercial experience
  • Strong understanding of commercial contract terms and intellectual property management
  • Data driven, strategic mindset and results focus
  • Leadership and influence in building a high performing culture and organization
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (~30%)
