Job Description

A Maintenance Technician is responsible for the support of production lines, equipment, and the facility. Must be able to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, maintain and repair operating equipment during production and breakdowns.  In addition, the Maintenance Technician will work with others to achieve factory business objectives of safety, productivity, customer service, quality, cost and environmental protection. 

 

Pay Information:

Maintenance Tech II starts at $31.40

Shift Diff is $1.00 for 2nd and 3rd shifts

The primary accountabilities of the role include troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance as required to ensure equipment reliability; assist with root cause analysis to identify reasons for failures and breakdowns; review electrical and pneumatic schematics during troubleshooting, repair and project work; and will work closely with the operators to support production and transfer skills to Operation Technicians.  This role will provide weekend or off - shift coverage for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Troubleshoots, repair and preventive maintenance (PM) as required to ensure equipment reliability

Troubleshoots production equipment:

            - Mechanical failures

            - Electrical; 460 VAC 3-phase and 110 VAC control sources as far as determining power

              (voltage) availability unassisted and assists Maintenance Technician II, III and ET Lead with controls and PLC troubleshooting

Assists Operations, Quality and Engineering teams with root cause analysis for CAPA, Incident Management, and Non-Conformances to identify reasons for incident causes

Works with operators to support production and transfer skills to Operation technicians

Support progression of Planned Maintenance and Autonomous Maintenance standards working with teams, focus resources, and planner scheduler on training and forward action plans

Accurately and fully completes all regulatory and compliance related documentation and procedures

Fabricates machine parts as needed and responsible for shop cleaning and sanitization

Understand and comply with Hill’s policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety. Identify and report Food Safety issues to management

Helps maintain spare parts inventory and restocking inventory for the plant as needed

Ensures completion of work orders as scheduled and document in SAP in timely manner.

Reviews equipment instructions, blueprints, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or re-engineering of parts or subassemblies

Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement e.g. autonomous maintenance (AM), housekeeping, problem solving etc.

Education/ Experience Requirements

Basic qualifications include: 

High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification

Must have 3 or more years of industrial maintenance experience in a similar manufacturing setting: Pet food, food, extruding/mixing or 5 years or more of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment or 5 or more years of industrial manufacturing experience in a similar setting: Pet food, food, extruding/batching/packaging

Technical training in support of required skills: Technical Diploma and/or certification or Military training in similar fields highly preferred

Ability to bend, climb, crawl, work in confined spaces, work in hazardous condition spaces, work in extreme weather conditions, use hazardous materials and lift up to 50 lbs on continual basis. Must also be able to work at heights of up to 300 ft.

Ability to work an off-shift work schedule that includes weekends

Practical knowledge of basic maintenance shop equipment

Problem assessment, problem solving and basic math skills

 

Preferred qualifications include:

Technical certificate in an industrial related field

1+ years manufacturing or similar experience with an emphasis in industrial maintenance, mechanics and electronics

Experience using electronic maintenance work order systems

Previous SAP experience

Previous similar manufacturing experience (food, pet food, pharmaceuticals)

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Intermediate computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Expected Areas of Skills

Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, maintain and repair operating equipment during production and breakdowns.

Review blueprints, project instructions, electrical & pneumatic schematics during troubleshooting, repair or project work.

Utilize maintenance shop equipment to include drill press, lathe, mill, welding, etc.
