Job Description

MACHINIST / FABRICATOR

Collaborate with project teams to support the design, fabrication and assembly of a broad range of custom R&D prototypes and equipment. Use 3D design software (Inventor) to translate R&D researcher concepts into models and drawings that can be utilized for fabrication and assembly. Utilize traditional machining equipment (lathes, mills, wire EDM, drills), automated CNC machines and 3D printers to fabricate parts for prototypes. Prepare parts list and bill of materials to support the purchase of required materials. Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills will be required to support projects from concept through design, fabrication and start-up.

Qualifications

  • A journeyman level of machining skills including the set-up and operation of vertical milling machines, lathes, shear, press brake, and surface grinder.
  • Design and fabricate devices from drawings or sketches using machining equipment (manual and CNC) and 3D printers.
  • Programming, set up, and operation of CNC milling machines, using conversational programing is a plus.
  • Develop 3D CAD models of prototypes and equipment
  • Ability to translate general concepts and ideas into working prototypes
  • Strong general mechanical aptitude
  • Collaborate across multi-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel...)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and problem solving skills
