Job Description Summary

You’ll work across multiple projects and with a wide variety of colleagues, working to understand how we can best apply data science and engineering to deliver value for our business.

Job Description

At Lloyds Banking Group, we have a clear purpose; to help Britain prosper and to become the best bank for our customers. What we do makes a genuine difference to families, businesses and communities, and we're playing a central role in building a growing UK economy.

Our brands, our services and our business span every aspect of banking and finance, including some of the biggest names on the UK's high streets. That gives us a big responsibility to support the UK economy, and we have a clear strategy to put customers first - and achieve our vision of becoming the best bank for customers.

Data science and data engineering are key capabilities for the Group. Joining our Retail data science team you'll play a meaningful role in the operation, maintenance and development of data science and engineering solutions used across the division.

As a Machine Learning Data Engineer, you’ll drive the next phase of growth for the team, working with the Retail Data Science Lead. You’ll work across multiple projects and with a wide variety of colleagues, working to understand how we can best apply data science and engineering to deliver value for our business.

In this role you'll:

• Run and maintain a suite of data science models and applications, specifically providing ‘data engineering expertise’

• Maintain and refine high quality, reusable data pipelines at scale, ingesting structured and unstructured data into our data lake, and feature engineering alongside our data scientists

• Work collaboratively with data scientists and other technical SMEs, to identify and implement solutions that deliver the most value for our business

• Be responsible for both maintaining and promoting high standards of development practice and an effective control environment

• Manage ‘pipeline’ incidents and troubleshooting, including working closely with the group’s strategic platform team and business partners where needed

About you:

Your role will evolve as the team continues to mature, so we'd like to hear from data professionals who are passionate, keen to learn, and who can embrace new ways of working. We're looking for a proven background in data storage, analysis and processing, as well as working with large data sets and with high volume data platforms.

It’s essential that you also possess computer science fundamentals, in other words, a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, design patterns and core programming concepts, together with good coding/scripting experience (e.g. Python, SQL etc) developed in an industry setting

Experience implementing and supporting Machine Learning, or other forecasting / predictive systems, including automating data validation, model training and performance monitoring, is highly desirable but not essential. Also desirable is having had exposure to some GCP cloud tooling (e.g. Cloud DataFlow, BigQuery).

Having a Financial Services background is not essential, however having a sound understanding and/or interest in Retail Banking and a desire to apply and grow your technical skillset with us, will be.

So, if you have the skills, background and outlook we're seeking and this opportunity appeals then get in touch, we'd love you to join our team! Got a question before you apply? Please feel free to contact Loizos.Markides@lloydsbanking.com or Lisa.Mackay@lloydsbanking.com

Sound like your kind of place?

In return, as a multi-brand, multi-channel business, we have the scale and breadth to provide you with a diverse range of personal development and a career that’s enriching. We're dedicated to giving you opportunities and support to develop you both professionally and personally to optimise your potential.

We support the principles of agile working and will be pleased to consider applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangementsOur team is primarily London-based and we're currently following a hybrid working model, but can be flexible on location.

We're also passionate about diversity and equal opportunity with industry recognition across gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ+ and families. And just let us know if you need any reasonable adjustments made to our recruitment processes, and we'll try to accommodate them.

So if you’d like to be part of an inclusive, values-based culture focused on making a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Whatever your aspiration, you can also expect excellent benefits, including a discretionary performance-related bonus, private health cover, share schemes, and a generous pension contribution, along with the option to choose an additional cash lump sum (4% of salary) or pick from a wide range of industry leading benefits.

Depending on base location and experience, the salary guide for this role is from £60,380 to £75,710

Together we make it possible - join us and you’ll be part of an organisation that values your contribution and empowers you to make a difference.

At Lloyds Banking Group, we're driven by a clear purpose; to help Britain recover. Across the Group, our colleagues are focused on making a difference to customers, businesses and communities. With us you'll have a key role to play in shaping the financial services of the future, whilst the scale and reach of our Group means you'll have many opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

We're focused on creating a values-led culture and are committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the customers and communities we serve. Together we’re building a truly inclusive workplace where all of our colleagues have the opportunity to make a real difference.
