Summary

This post is advertised as a 12 month fixed term/Loan appointment. Candidates that are already established Civil Servants will come to the FSA on a Loan basis and will need to request permission from their Home Department for the Loan prior to applying for this job.

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

Job description

The relationship that the FSA has with its partners in Local Authorities is key to our work protecting consumer health. Working to deliver food and feed controls across the country, Local Authority teams provide core on-the-ground services that enable us to ensure food produced in Wales meets our high-quality standards.

The Local Authority Partnerships Team are a vital connecting point providing guidance to Local Authorities with regards to food and animal feed law, codes of practice and other centrally issued guidance, the team also provides a route for Local Authorities to bring issues and concerns to the Agency. This can inform FSA policy development, ensuring that new processes are informed by on-the-ground experience.

The Local Authorities Partnership Officer role offers an exciting opportunity for candidates to work closely with a range of stakeholders, helping to ensure that food produced in Wales is safe and exactly what it says it is.

Through close working relationships with local authority officers across all levels, the post holder will offer day to day support so that consistent delivery of our services is achieved across Wales. Working to ensure the delivery of our services with regards to imports and exports, the successful candidate will assist with the coordination of audit visits to Wales by international partners. They will liaise with and support local authority officers and FSA colleagues alike in the lead up to and during audits, offering guidance and information as required.

The post holder will work to ensure that FSA policy development takes into account interests specific to Wales, as well as the specific experiences of our Local Authority colleagues providing our front-line services.

Candidates will be capable of identifying trends and areas for improvement within the bigger picture of the work Local Authorities carry out for us, communicating clearly so that both the FSA and its partners on the ground can effectively influence and guide the other’s work.
