Position Summary:

Career growth opportunities for a lead/senior chemical or mechanical engineer, seeking a technical challenge in a fast-paced environment executing the water treatment design of a range of industrial treatment facilities. We are looking for candidates with extensive knowledge of industrial water treatment design that have a proven track record leading teams during FEED/EPC, operational experience would be an advantage.

 

Role Overview

  • Executes water treatment engineering deliverables according to a set engineering design criteria utilizing approved engineering procedures and practices.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and reviews designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
  • Determines engineering scope and sets up an engineering work plan for the discipline on complex projects for FEED and EPC phases.
  • Manages a team of engineers and is responsible for the delivery of project deliverables within the agreed job hour budgets and schedules.
  • Maintains the technical quality of all environmental deliverables issued on the project.
  • Manages and leads complex technical discussions with third parties (customer, licensors, suppliers, and regulators).
  • Identifies issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
  • Understands multi-disciplinary technical issues and can provide innovative technical solutions to resolve these issues.
  • Confident and able in leading teams up to 10 engineers in the execution of complex projects.
  • Takes the initiative to coordinate the detailed design development of a system with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates. 
  • Coordinates technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews.
  • Provides technical direction for specific tasks and assigns work to subordinate engineers or designers.
  • Broad knowledge of precedents in the industry.
  • Broad working knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, the principles, and practices of related technical areas and of coordinating work with other technical disciplines.

 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Managing of water treatment engineering scope such as industrial wastewater and raw water treatment or drainage. The design will include development of design basis, process flow diagrams, package specifications, and development of equipment calculations and datasheets
  • Attendance of key meetings such as P&IDs review, HAZOP, and 3D model review and providing environmental input
  • Compiling technical lists and inventories such as emissions and effluents summaries
  • Interfacing with government Environmental Regulatory Authorities
  • Ensuring that projects are incompliance with state, federal, and country environmental regulations
  • Ensuring that projects are incompliance with International Finance Corporation (IFC) requirements where required
  • Attendance and input at major reviews such a PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, and 3D model reviews. Representing the process engineering discipline and being able to explain process design questions to clients and other disciplines.

 

 

Basic Qualifications

  • A recognized bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Excellent knowledge of technical theory, engineering principles, good engineering practices and how to apply them for design execution
  • Extensive experience with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design, quality, or processes
  • Environmental Legislation – extensive knowledge of international and US specific legislation
  • Chartered engineer or willingness to pursue
  • Demonstrated experience in all deliverables, tasks and activities listed in the position summary and responsibilities section.

 

Industry Experience: 

Relevant industrial experience required in multiple types of units/packages such as:

  • Desalination plants
  • Industrial raw water treatment
  • Industrial wastewater treatment
  • Zero liquid discharge technologies
  • Closed and open drain design
  • Potable water package design
  • Sanitary system package design
