Global Risk is a growing and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and multifaceted range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks.

The team engages in the review, recommendation and/or approval of industry agnostic leveraged credit proposals for Private Equity backed clients.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Lead Risk Officer – Leveraged Credit, Wholesale Credit Risk within HSBC UK Bank – Wholesale Credit Risk.

In this role, you will:

  • Evaluate, recommend and approve transactions and annual reviews within personal approval authority for Leveraged and Acquisition Finance related transactions
  • Ensure prudent and well-structured proposals for the Leveraged Corporates/Mid Market Financial Sponsors portfolio. Guidance is to be provided to support the business and ensure an efficient credit process
  • Engage with stakeholders communicating decisions in a clear & concise manner within required timescales
  • Lead and improve the risk portfolio by implementing lending and credit guidelines and ensuring credit standards are consistent with Group policy objectives
  • Assess on a continuous basis the credit quality of the portfolio with a particular view to ensuring the appropriateness of Counterparty Risk Ratings and approved limits
  • Engage in pro-active risk management to support the identification and management of problem exposures, portfolio risk and sector issues with the aim of minimising loan impairments/credit losses
  • Be a source of expertise to the business and provide wider contribution to other areas of Wholesale Credit Risk through teamwork and sharing of best practice
  • Operate with a degree of self-sufficiency in day-to-day work and support senior management.

Requirements

Successful candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Solid and diversified banking experience and a good understanding of the banking industry, lending practices, guidelines and appetite.
  • A robust knowledge of the Corporate & Commercial Banking business
  • Demonstrable strong analytical and technical skills, as well as the ability to quickly understand and consolidate diverse and complex business information including financial statement and cash flow analysis to identify and mitigate risks
  • Track record of being able to confidently make decisions on complex lending propositions
  • Conversant with Leveraged Finance and Private Equity and, aware of prevailing market trends in terms of credit structures and risks
  • Ability to show resilience under pressure, including working to tight deadlines and be able to simultaneously manage competing approval deadline requests
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to participate in discussion and credit approval forums involving various partners from multiple functions
  • Ability to articulate credit views to senior management in a clear and succinct manner as a basis for supporting judgemental credit decisions
  • Understanding of LMA documentation
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated team player attitude

The base location for this role is London however hybrid working is available with some days working from home.
