Lead QA Engineer – Native Apps

The Web & Apps department is at the heart of ASOS Technology; our goal is to create the ultimate customer experience through inspiration, engagement and excitement for the fashion industry. We achieve our objectives using the latest technologies at scale to surpass our customers’ expectations.

The Native Apps team currently consists of over 30 talented individuals. There are six interdisciplinary teams (three iOS, three Android) composed of Platform Leads, Engineering Managers, Product Owners, four to six Software Engineers and two QA Engineers each. Our team collaborates closely with the Web team and numerous API teams whose services we consume.

That’s where the Lead QA comes in…

What you will be doing:

  • Educating the iOS and Android teams on best practices and standards and good coding conventions for test code

  • Leading talent attraction and interview process on the Native Apps team

  • Guiding projects and collaborating with multiple teams to align on dependencies (e.g. across frontend and backend)

  • Identifying and mitigating risks and issues

  • Finding or building tooling to help our teams be more effective and efficient Setting the direction for our teams by defining the Testing Strategy and Approach for the iOS and Android teams

  • Coaching everyone across all disciplines to help them become the best testers they can be

  • Managing a team of around 12 QA Engineers, helping them with their personal objectives and growth

  • Organising brown bags and knowledge sharing sessions and motivating the teams to actively share their knowledge

What you will need:

  • You are a proactive, independent individual who drives quality

  • You have 5-10 years of solid experience in testing across various platforms (iOS, Android, API)

  • You have experience working in a fast-paced Agile environment

  • You have the ability to plan, coordinate and execute testing activities at various levels and along the complete development life cycle

  • You have strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making abilities

  • You have the ability to handle conflict and difficult situations

  • You have hands-on experience using industry-wide tools like Android Studio, Xcode, Postman, Charles Proxy or similar

  • You have hands-on experience using Continuous Integration tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins & Bitrise

  • You have hands-on experience in a range of programming languages such as Kotlin, Swift, Java & Objective C

  • You have experience of mentoring and leading a team of QA Engineers

  • You have experience setting up and improving existing automation frameworks

  • You have the ability to handle and prioritise multiple tasks, meeting deadlines and managing other QAs

  •  You work well both as part of a team and also across multiple teams
