Job Description

As a lead public relations representative, you'll play a key role in the strategic direction and measurement of Public Relations activities, planning proactive and reactive public relations efforts, handling media calls to the organization, and working with business partners on regulatory/legislative and other related issues. On the front lines of our external communication efforts and media initiatives, you'll work closely with internal teams and business areas to develop strategies for our brand promotion, media outreach and special events. You'll brainstorm and plan strategic communications while also handling issues/crises and media calls that require a quick response time. In addition, you'll be part of an energetic, creative team that runs like an agency within Progressive, ensuring the protection and accuracy of our company's brand and reputation.

Location: Cleveland preferred, but open to remote locations. Remote candidates must be willing to travel to Cleveland as needed and work Eastern Time Zone hours.  

Must-have qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications or related field (i.e. Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing)
  • Minimum of 8 years professional experience in Communications
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years professional experience in Communications (i.e. Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising)

Preferred skills

  • Several years of experience representing clients at a PR agency or leading PR campaigns for a large corporation
  • Experience managing strategic PR campaigns and crisis communications on a national scale
  • Proven media partnerships and ability to gain buy in from local and national media contacts
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; able to present ideas/perspectives in a compelling way
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks in an environment where guidelines and deadlines often change, and strong project management skills

Compensation

  • $78,700 - $104,900/year
  • Gainshare bonus up to 30% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
