Cox Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Lead Payroll Specialist to join the HRTS Production Services team. The successful candidate will provide workflow coordination, oversight, and individual contributions on a variety of HR programs, policies, procedures, and practices that enhance the employees' experience, expands the organization's effectiveness, and minimize compliance/legal risks. The Lead Payroll Specialist (Lead) is a part of a dedicated team of payroll professionals. The Lead will process payrolls for multiple, complex multi-state corporate companies. The Lead Specialist is a subject matter expert in payroll functional areas: (Workday Payroll and Time Tracking, and Kronos. This role will oversee the workload balance between team members and be a mentor to junior-level specialists. The Lead will provide support in the areas of Payroll, and the time keeping systems. This person performs duties in support of organizational objectives and standard business and financial practices and in compliance with wage, tax, and other applicable laws with limited supervision.
Responsibilities
Serves as payroll subject matter expert in working with business partners on projects and process improvement opportunities.
Supports and mentors the Sr. Payroll Specialist and Payroll Specialist and is the escalation point for day-to-day activities of the specialists.
Provides relevant training and knowledge sharing opportunities with the Payroll Specialists.
Identifies and implements the need for new payroll procedures or necessary communications.
Develop and execute new procedures and audits, training team on new procedures.
Serves as back-up to payroll analyst processing payroll.
Supports complex payroll-related processes and issues.
Serves as SME during User Acceptance Testing of system enhancements that impact the payroll specialist role.
Follows up with timekeepers and managers to ensure procedures are followed timely and accurately.
Working with the People Solution and Payroll team members and leadership, ensure specialists are following work procedures, expediting the workflow, and reviewing work for accuracy and conformance to policies and procedures.
Responsible for completing the timely entry of all employee level tax, general deductions, special earnings, direct deposit, and all other payroll-related data.
Reviews, monitors, and validates transactions initiated by other payroll specialists as well as other areas (benefits, compensation, etc.) to ensure accurate processing for employees.
Assists payroll analysts with proactively identifying potential payroll issues and correcting any errors prior to finalizing payroll transactions.
Acts as a payroll expert concerning wage and hour laws as well as other payroll-related topics to service customers with their payroll-related questions.
Maintains customer contacts for corporate payroll for questions, payroll checks, and reporting distribution.
Generates off-cycle payment transactions, as required by customers.
Sends communication and manages the process for updating employees for special annual payments/updates (club dues, personal auto usage of the company vehicle, etc.).
Develops and maintains documents and procedures followed within the Payroll Operations area.
Interacts with employees and HR professionals regarding questions about payroll.
Produces reports as needed and/or directed for internal customers.
Monitors and responds to incidents in the ticketing system.
Will assist in the development of policies and procedures for payroll process and timekeeping.
Research and resolve pay discrepancies.
Updates leave balances as requested by HR division leaders.
Perform other duties as assigned depending on department and business needs.
Qualifications:
Degrees/Designations:
Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of 7 years experience supporting a large HR/payroll environment
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
System Knowledge/Experience:
6 years experience with Workday Payroll and Time Tracking
Advanced experience using two or more of the following: Service Now, Workday Payroll, Workday Time Tracking, and Kronos.
Experience using Microsoft Office products
Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and communication skills.
Ability to be flexible and respond to varied demands.
