Rosa is a central government IT system that enables collaborative working at SECRET in a secure environment with the latest technologies. Rosa provides fixed and mobile SECRET collaboration tools and communications in 166 countries across the globe, with over 12,000 users creating and sharing data securely. This ground-breaking work is protecting our national security whilst enabling users to work in far better ways than any previous solutions have allowed in this space.
We have a vacancy for a Lead Network Engineer to help develop and evolve our service to meet the fast-changing needs of our partners.
The successful candidate will need to combine strong technical skills with a consultative approach and work within a team of engineers ensuring services are integrated, delivered and operated to a high standard.
The role will involve working with enterprise networks and developing an understanding of Government security guidance to deliver secure network infrastructure services.
For this role you will require a high level of networking experience and skills to investigate and resolve complicated networking issues. You will be expected to work closely with network architects to produce architectural designs. In addition, the ability to provide technical assistance to team members and help colleagues translate and deliver these designs into production is essential. You will also be expected to deputise for the Principle Engineer as and when required.
This role requires a strong user focus and an eye for detail – understanding the technology that is required to facilitate the network & infrastructure and be able to work with minimal supervision or as part of a larger team. Agile project methodologies are the main method used within this area.
You may be required to travel to sites outside of central London to establish requirements and supervise delivery of network and infrastructure components.

• Provide support to a team of network engineers in the troubleshooting and resolution of network infrastructure incidents across the service, involving both physical and virtual network switching, routing and firewall equipment
• Improve and maintain monitoring and alerting of the Rosa network equipment across all environments within the RSO and our partner sites worldwide
• Work with the technical architects, other technical teams and external vendors to produce solutions that are intended to add to or improve functionality to the service
• Provide technical leadership to squads of engineers to deliver these solutions
• Ensure that all new components and installations meet or exceed the RSO internal and regulatory requirements
• Own responsibility for network changes and implement according to agreed business processes
• Monitor trends to be able to proactively respond to issues to support the business needs
• Further develop existing documentation spaces, processes and policies to ensure necessary governance and reporting is in place
• Follow the Technology Development Life Cycle in the development of all products, proactively plan and manage upgrades for both virtual and physical networking equipment as appropriate
