The LEGO Group is looking for a Lead JavaScript Application Engineer to work on the LEGO.com technology platform as part of our Marketing & Channels Technology team based in London.
Our engineers work in interdisciplinary squads each arranged around clear product goals with responsibility for delivery of their own product roadmaps.You’ll be committed to one of our dedicated squads working on the LEGO.com platform alongside a dedicated and diverse team of software engineers as well as working with Principal Engineers and Engineering Leadership on solving some of our largest and most complex problems.
This is a permanent role based in our London Hub near Chancery Lane station. Our colleagues are all currently still working from home and when the Hub re-opens fully, we will have a hybrid model allowing a split of working from the Hub but also working from home for a number of days per week where appropriate.
Core Responsibilities
• Lead the engineering effort in one of our dedicated squads working on the LEGO.com platform
• Lead the solution design and build of efficient and reusable solutions for some of our largest and most complex requirements
• Actively lead engineering strategy for an area of Marketing & Channels Technology focused on both current requirements and long-term direction
• Proactively sponsor and mentor senior engineers across an area of Marketing & Channels Technology

Working closely with our Principal Engineers and Engineering Managers, our Application Engineers are a vital part of the LEGO.com engineering team. We have implemented a modern front-end stack based around Next.js, React and GraphQL with a cloud-native AWS serverless back-end, and we use the platform to design, build and operate LEGO.com.

• You are a technical authority within your company and sought out by others from across the company for contribution to our highest priority business challenges
• You have a proven track record of leading complex engineering projects on high traffic public-facing JavaScript applications
• You are able to balance the need for high quality engineering alongside delivering on commercial objectives
• You value security, reliability, and maintainability as hallmarks of quality in delivered features
• You have extensive experience working with technical and commercial partners outside of your own direct team
• You can effectively delegate engineering tasks where required to balance your workload and enable individual growth of other engineers
• You lead by example to inspire a safe, inclusive and proactive engineering culture
• You are an active contributor to open source or inner-source initiatives and communities and are recognised for your thoughtful and considered contributions
• You have experienced knowledge of modern JavaScript-focused front-end frameworks and technologies – our front-end platform is based on Node.js, Next.js framework, GraphQL, React and associated libraries and tooling including Apollo, Webpack, Babel and Jest
• You have a proven track record of working with resilient, scalable microservices-based environments - our API event-based services layer utilises Node.js and the Serverless Framework and is built mainly on the AWS Serverless stack – Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, Kinesis and DynamoDB
• You are an active contributor to open source or inner-source initiatives and communities and are recognised for your thoughtful and considered contributions
• You have in-depth experience with CI/CD tooling and the responsibly running highly available solutions in production, working with logging, supervising and alerting stacks
