Job Description

At Cox, we’re forward-thinking innovators who put people first. Our award-winning workplace culture is centered on inclusion and kindness, and we’re looking for people to join our mission to be a force for good in the world. Come build a better future with us across automotive, communications, the environment and more.

We want to do everything we can to keep our employees safe and healthy. Therefore, where permitted by applicable law, you will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to be considered for this U.S.-based job. Reasonable accommodations for medical and religious objections will of course be considered.

Keep reading to learn more about this opportunity to join the Cox family of businesses.

Great teams are capable of doing truly transformative things.  We’re talking leading-edge work that makes a major impact.  Of course, any great team needs a capable leader, someone who takes a hands-on approach to help propel the team forward.

At Cox Communications, we’re looking for someone just like that to step into the shoes of a Lead Data Engineer, a core member of our Consumer Analytics team. This leader would develop and automate key data pipelines in the cloud, while supporting internal clients like our Marketing and Sales teams.

So, if you enjoy putting your people skills AND your analytical prowess to work on the daily, keep reading. This may be your jam.

What You’ll Do

As Lead Data Engineer, you’ll stay busy doing some pretty amazing things.  Your key responsibility will be to design, develop and maintain our analytical Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, using AWS, AirFlow, Snowflake, and other technologies.  But you’ll get to do much more than that, such as:

You’ll support your team with things like onboarding and monitoring of new ETL processes.

You’ll ID and develop approaches to improve the reliability and efficiency of data and everything that goes into it.

You’ll analyze data in the data lake  so you can help out with troubleshooting and resolutions as needed.

You’ll work with our tech team to share analytic needs and to integrate processes

You’ll prep documents and reports that share the inner workings of the solutions you and your team create, and share those with our leadership team

You’ll train and coach other team members

You’ll keep on top of the latest trends in the industry, and ID new capabilities so you can make our processes.

What’s In It For You?

Really good question, and we have some good answers that we hope you like.

We want you to feel cared for and respected (like you do with our customers), and that starts with Cox’s highly competitive pay and other compensation perks (401k + company matching, comprehensive medical benefits, etc.).  We also offer Cox discounted services, tuition reimbursement for academic pursuits, adoption assistance, paid time off to volunteer, childcare and eldercare resources, pet insurance and much more.

Good work should be rewarded, and not just with a healthy paycheck.  The Cox culture is one that values people more than technology, so it’s our goal to make sure you feel recognized for your contributions.  It’s also important to work alongside colleagues who “get you.”  At Cox, you’ll find a workplace where relationships are crafted with care and successes are celebrated with high fives. We strive to create an environment where you can do you, and everyone from leadership to new hires can support and feel supported.

Growth is a good thing, and you’ll have opportunities to learn and train so you can sharpen your skills and explore opportunities across the Cox family of businesses that will continue to challenge and empower you. In the future, you may have the opportunity to cultivate customer relationships in other sectors where we operate like cleantech, health care and new forms of transportation mobility.

Qualifications:

Who You Are

You’ve got a lot on the ball (but you knew that).  Here are some of the skills and experiences we’re looking for from you:

You’ve got 5 or more years work experience in the world of tech analytics (using AWS, of course).

You’ve got a graduate degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Analytics, Engineering, or closely related field

You’ve got solid skills in programming, and know your way around complex programs.  Technologies like SQL, Python, AWS, EC2, RDS, Lambda, and Snowflake are familiar territory for you.

Developing on the AWS platform and performing continuous integration are also tasks you’re comfortable with.

Working with diverse business teams is second nature for your collaborative, people-driven personality.

You’re a rock-solid communicator, and can comprehend and discuss analytics, business insights and implications with the best of them.

While the rest of these aren’t a must, it would be great if you could check a few of the following boxes as well:

You’re familiar with various design and architectural patterns

You’ve got experience with Airflow, cloud computing, and building analytics applications using AI/ML at scale

You’ve got hands-on experience applying advanced analytical approaches to marketing/sales CRM systems

You’ve done some work in telecommunications, cable industry, high tech, or consulting
