The IEO organization plays a fundamental role in delivering IaaS for the ISG Development teams. We accelerate the pace of development to meet their needs by ensuring all critical systems are running 24x7 in support of Engineering Development while at the same time driving division wide Transformation Initiatives to modernize Engineering Operations across multiple lines of business.
Lab Support Engineering is at the heart of a worldwide lab operations team providing 24x7 lab access, service and solutions support in multiple locations. Independent and flexible, team members are always ready to adapt to the changing daily priorities. They make an impact in all kinds of ways – from installing and maintaining servers and storage equipment within the fast-paced lab computing environment, through to providing top-level technical expertise and support to engineering departmental users. What’s more, they work with engineering teams to create hardware configuration test plans in support of software development.
Responsibilities
As the Lab Support Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for coordination and performance of installations and remedial maintenance of servers and storage equipment located with the lab computing environment. Provide architectural level client/server and SAN/storage array support for the configuration and maintenance of the engineering computer lab systems for the lab computing environment. Responsible for ensuring proper deployment of new hardware, including servers, switches, and storage arrays. Observe activities within the lab computing environment area. Monitor the effectiveness of all policies and procedures with the intent of improving efficiency and responsiveness within the lab environment. Answer technical product-specific questions regarding current systems, configurations, and microcode revisions. Identify system or storage performance issues and develop tools for enhanced management. Ensure lab orderliness, maintain accurate hardware inventory records, and publish best practice procedures for lab operations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field of study, plus 5 years of experience in the job offered OR 8 years of experience as a Lab Support Engineer, Senior Lab Administrator, or related occupation
Proficiency in hardware, software and operating systems
Proficiency in monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Solarwinds
Strong knowledge of appropriate networks, products and protocols: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, DNS, DHCP, Layer 2, Layer 3
Experience with Cisco Nexus (Arista EOS or Dell FTOS highly desirable as well)
Strong troubleshooting skills
Ability to work in a virtual team environment
Advanced technical expertise in virtualization to include VMware suite/applications (ESXi, vCenter, vRealize, VRA, VDP)
Proficiency in orchestration tools and applications
Proficiency in backup/restore client applications (Avamar VE, Solarwinds)
Proficiency in patching tools such as SCM, Spacewalk
Technical writing skills.
Solid understanding of software development lifecycles, tools, and Agile processes
Has some experience in a Production level environment
