KTRK-TV is an ABC owned television station (OTVS), located in a state-of-the-art facility in Houston, Texas. ABC13 (KTRK) Houston’s news leader is one of the most technically advanced television stations in the country. The station is a champion of innovation and is at the forefront of the changing media landscape. Our offices and studios are located in the Greenway Plaza area.
A Day in the Life…
The internship program is designed to provide students with an on-site educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.
Some of your projects with the KTRK-TV Photography Team may include:
Learning professional broadcast cameras and editing equipment
Learning how to cover news stories within deadline
Learning to operate the latest in live broadcasting technologies
What we are looking for…
Interest in pursuing a career in news television/multi-media field
Being detail-oriented and able to handle many different responsibilities at the same time
Good news judgment and strong communication skills are essential, along with strong writing skills
Good working knowledge with the use of social media for news gathering
Has an attention to detail and set priorities
Passion for news
Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year or recently graduated within the past 6 months
Majoring in Journalism, Digital Media, Radio, Television and Film, Mass Communications
Taken a class in Digital Media/Journalism
Experience shooting and editing video
Experience working with Adobe Premiere
Required Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last 6 months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program
Additional Details:
All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
All candidates must be at least 18 years old
Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
Program Dates:
All candidates must be available from January 2023 through early June 2023
All candidates must be available to work 25 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
All candidates must be able to work in the Houston office and provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
