Role Responsibility
As Tax Analyst / Junior you will work within the tax and finance function at Selfridges and provide support for direct and indirect tax obligations. This will involve obtaining and reviewing finance data and require analysis in order for tax returns to be filed. The role will index towards global indirect taxes but there will also be scope to support the UK corporate tax compliance process. You will also work with the wider finance team to prepare and track payments and contribute to financial forecasting models. The role will also require preparation of journals and reconciliations.
As Tax Analyst / Junior you will wok with the VAT Accountant and VAT Manager to manage indirect tax compliance requirements for the UK business, ensuring that filings are both accurate and on-time, with payments executed in order to meet liabilities due. This will primarily be met through following existing processes and building in relevant enhancements and includes:
Obtaining data and reports to support workings and filings
Reviewing source data to validate content and identify anomalies
Preparation of data to support VAT / GST and other ITX regime filings, including digital reporting and on-line regimes
Provide support for Tax Authorities enquiries
Account reconciliations / journal preparation
Assist with cash-flow modelling and reviewing import VAT / duty costs
Review and update processes to support the compliance process and timetable
Support for and liaison with the tax and finance teams
The role will provide exposure to various tax and finance functions of Selfridges business, including to supply chain commercial terms, cash-flow savings and mitigation. Development opportunities / progression are available.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience. An accounts analyst looking to take on a more specialist role in tax. AAT preferred
Technical. Working towards or recently gained an Accounting qualification and have some relevant experience; account reconciliation essential – recent exposure of VAT / indirect tax compliance, including US sales tax, ideal;
Experience of working within a finance function with commercial teams would be an advantage;
Skills. Good analytical skills with the ability to follow processes and validate actions
A good communicator. You will be able to adapt to, and communicate and work with, a variety of individuals and teams across tax and finance at differing levels;
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to a high standard, managing workload to meet deadlines;
Adaptable. You will have the ability to prioritise and be comfortable with deadlines
Process driven. You will be able to follow established process and identify enhancements.
Personable, with the ability to influence and gain the trust and respect of people at all levels quickly and across the entire business;
Able to manage own workload and keep others informed;
