What does our Design team do?

We Identify and design key trends for each season and translate these into accessible, broad appeal products for our Customers. We work really closely with Buying and Merchandising to ensure we are closely aligned on what we design and how this aligns with all the great products we buy.

The Role:

We are looking for a Junior designer to join our Kintwear design team here at New Look. We are looking for someone to put the customer requirements at the centre of the product offer to develop and deliver a commercial and profitable range that maximises sales opportunity. To be responsible for the Design strategy by assisting the Senior Designer in designing and developing range(s) in line with current trend, customer profiles, and brand direction. Deputise in the absence of the Senior Designer.

Ideally we would like you to have the following skills:

• Be highly creative and demonstrate an ability to design trend relevant ideas for LNS areas as needed.

• Inspire by bringing newness with key ideas relevant to the brand. A love of social media trends, influencers and catwalks.

• Identify key blocks for the season, deliver this within key meetings for the season, with the help of your line manager.

• Ongoing familiarity of the competition’s product range

• Demonstrate a confident approach to working with your buying and merch team.

• Work closely with the garment design team, alongside the critical path to deliver key styles for the season.

• Work closely with the print team alongside critical path to deliver key print for the season. Here lead with key ideas for department and inspire teams as a collaboration on key trend

• Work under pressure and focus on delivering the best product needed for department.

• Ability to use adobe suite to a really good level – ai cads essential / Indesign trend packs

• An understanding of the New Look Customer. Actively contributing in trend and competitor analysis, making recommendations for changes or developments

• Confidently build the range with the help of your line manager, here demonstrate good working relationship with your buying team and merch.

• Have a knowledge of fast paced/ trend lead work place, new look strive to be quick reacting you will be part of ensuring key product/ trend is landed accordingly

• Working closely with your peers to link up on key areas so trend looks are delivered in a cohesive manner

• Must continue to push and develop yourself within the role, help lead by example to less experienced members of the team

About you

• Previous experience as a Junior Designer on (lingerie/nightwear/swim) within a major retailer / department within New Look / Established Supplier- ideally 3 years experience or more.

• Textiles/Fashion Qualification / Other qualification-ideally at Degree Level

• PC/Mac literate - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel, Word, Adobe Suite

• Trend Aware

• Understanding of how to translate fashion trends into commercial product

• Factory ready tech packs

• Confidently fit and approve garments

• Understanding of commercial garment / product construction methods

• Understanding of how to translate fashion trends into commercial product opportunities

• Knowledge of Buying calendar (critical path)

• Good interpersonal / communication skills

• Ability to motivate and develop team

• Negotiation and influencing skills

• Organisational skills

• Presentation skills

• Broad understanding of current competitive marketplace (comparative shopping)

• Customer knowledge

• Ability to initiate, build and maintain great relationships with Buying, Merchandising, Garment Tech and Suppliers

• Good presentation skills

• Can work under pressure whilst maintaining a positive attitude

• Communicate effectively with all internal and external teams

• Understands and identifies correct stakeholders to influence in order to achieve goals
