AES Clean Energy (AES) is currently seeking an Associate Project Developer to assist origination, development and project execution of solar and solar + storage projects in Hawaii as a member of AES’s Greenfield Development team. The candidate will have a direct role in advancing Hawaii’s clean energy future.

The successful candidate will report to the Program Manager – Hawaii and will support the Hawaii development team with originating and evaluating new renewable energy project opportunities, as well as supporting project analysis, development, due diligence and permitting. 

The position will be based in Hawaii with inter-island and trans-Pacific travel as needed. 

AES has a strong presence in Hawaii with multiple projects under construction and a large pipeline of solar plus storage projects in development. AES has projects in development, construction or operations on Oʻahu, Maui, Hawaiʻi Island and Kauaʻi.

The successful candidate will work on a cross-functional team with origination, legal, finance, engineering, construction, outside consultants, landowners, customers, stakeholders and utility companies. The role requires attention-to-detail, project management knowledge and renewable energy experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with all aspects of development for greenfield projects from after origination through to construction commencement
• Develop and manage project development schedules and budgets
• Participate in project meetings with internal and external stakeholders
• Review contract obligations in key project documents
• Assist Project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, presenting at permit hearings
• Coordinate for delivery of site and environmental studies, surveys and diligence reports
• Coordinate Interconnection process with utility ompany
• Work with internal and external Engineering teams as they progress engineering and design
• Work with internal construction management team on contractor selection process
• Coordinate with construction management team on securing ministerial permits
• Handoff projects once fully developed and permitted to construction management team
• Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents
• Provide support and analysis for new Business Development opportunities in Hawaii
• Assist the Greenfield Development team as needed and applicable on upfront origination efforts

Skills and Qualifications:

• 1 - 3 years relevant experience
• Undergraduate degree, preferably in Engineering, Project Management, Energy, Environmental Studies, or Business.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite, QuickBase, Box, Microsoft Teams, MS Project
• Strong computer and analytical skills
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Experience and passion in renewable energy technologies
• Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision
• Experience utilizing CRM systems
• Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Able to work supportively and collaboratively with other teams
• Comfortable coordinating across functional teams
• Ability to identify key priorities among various requests
