Job Description

Employees in this job supervise the janitorial activities in an automotive manufacturing facility. The work
requires knowledge of the practices and materials of the service and supervisory techniques, personnel
policies, and procedures. The employee functions as a first-line supervisor, providing direction to staff.
The employee works under general supervision and uses independent judgment to apply the guidelines
to specific situations.  


PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: Not all duties assigned to this position are included.  
• Trains janitors in proper cleaning methods, the use of equipment and safety practices.
• Assigns staff to designated areas. 
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of 
employees assigned to each building. 
• Evaluates and verifies employee performance. 
• Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained. 
• Makes rounds to check for crew coverage of designated work areas, assigns needed coverage, gives 
special cleaning instructions and/or assignments, and ascertains compliance with directives. 
• Conducts inspections to check for employee compliance to safety policies throughout the facility,
checks for cleanliness, and advises employees of found conditions and methods of correction. 
• Inspects equipment for cleanliness and function. 
• Reports safety hazards and repair needs to appropriate personnel for the purpose of ensuring safe 
facilities. 
• Enforces ABM rules and policies regarding employee conduct by advising janitorial personnel of the 
company’s rules and policies, issuing verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and 
recommending progressive disciplinary action to the immediate supervisor as appropriate. 
• Ensures that janitorial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform contractual
services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items, and storing
the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility. 
• Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and
responsibilities as assigned.  

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Language Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as government issued identification items, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals, and employee handbooks.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Math Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Qualifications â€“ Other Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

  • The individual may be required to stand and walk for 2/3 or more of the work shift.
  • Individual may be required to talk, hear and use hands to handle or feel for 2/3 or more of the work shift.
  • Individual may be required to lift 25 pounds or more for up to 2/3 of the work shift. The individual must be able to work in a high stress environment.
  • Must have Floor and carpet cleaning experience.
