The DZNE operates central IT services at its headquarters in Bonn providing the central network, server and storage infrastructure for the entire research institution distributed across ten locations in Germany, supporting the work of scientists and administration. At the moment we are looking for candidates to lead and strengthen our “Scientific IT Systems and Software” team.You will lead a multidisciplinary team involved in diverse projects and be the interface between IT and scientific research. The team analyzes, implements and configures enabling solutions and technologies for scientific research. Furthermore, the team is responsible to adapt, support and administer tailored IT solutions and maintain the high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure of the DZNE. In this role you will have the opportunity to inspire and enable your team to reach their full potential and you will also contribute actively with your expertise in several projects.

Your tasks

• Independent disciplinary and technical management of the Scientific Systems and Software groupo Team up and mentoring the members of your teamo Leadership and promotion of group memberso Planning, control and monitoring of group taskso Control of personnel deployment in the groupo Independent control, evaluation and further development of work processes in the groupo Responsible coordination of tasks with the IT department head and other organizational units• Contribute to the strategic development of IT for science at the DZNEo Operationalize the Group&s;s strategic areas of action based on DZNE’s strategy and the IT Department’s strategic goalso Promote initiatives and ideas to the further development of the department• Continuous development and enhancement of scientific systems and software environmentso Communication with DZNE scientists (e.g. promoting our scientific programming solutions and research data management applications)o Management and coordination of all activities related to the implementation of specialized IT systems and software to enable and support research at DZNEo Partner with different stakeholders and be hands-on in technical implementationso Analysis of requirements from our scientific community regarding the use of IT based systems for recording and analyzing scientific data, and investigate, evaluate and propose new technologies and solutions

Requirements

• Completed academic university studies in computer science or a related subject (e.g. MSc. or diploma in electrical engineering, mathematics or physics)• Solid technical background and hands-on experience in the conception and use of specialized IT systems and software for scientific research such as:o Administration of computing resources (HPC, cluster environments)o Linux server administration (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.)o Database administration (MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL)o Containerization and virtualization technologies (Docker/Singularity, VMware)o Batch systems/job schedulers (SLURM), Ansible and Kuberneteso Experience in one or more of the following environments desirable: MATLAB, R, SPSS, SAS, Jupyter, Anaconda• Passionate about helping team members to grow and develop themselves• Ability to communicate and engage people• Demonstrable experience leading teams in technical and elaborated scenarios• Talent to promote teamwork and inspire proactive and cooperative mindset• Conceptual thinking and structured and solution-oriented approach• An agile mindset and experience with agile methodologies• Fluent spoken and written English
