The role will be based in either London or Cardiff and may require occasional travel to other DIT Offices. Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role. Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in the office, on average. Commuting costs to meet this requirement and travelling to the main office location will not be covered by DIT, however commuting costs will be covered for travel to a DIT office which is not the employee’s main office location under the Department’s Travel and Expenses Policy.

As an IT Operations Executive Support Engineer you will be …
Joining our growing team within the Digital, Data and Technology function. You’ll be responsible for primarily supporting and assisting our Executive team consisting of senior civil servants, ministers, and VIP’s, with the AV and IT related requirements. You will also be expected to support the rest of the team in various responsibilities.
You’ll apply your skills and knowledge ensuring that we deliver a superior service to all staff. You will be providing support to a key part of our group, communicating and ensuring that we deliver the highest standard of support; you may, at times, be asked to work outside of the core 9 to 5 day.
You’ll have enthusiasm for helping colleagues to realise their potential, taking a proactive approach to developing your skills and sharing them with the IT Operations Team and its partners. You will be engaged with and actively contribute to continually improving the services we offer.
What we’re looking for from you…
You will be an experienced IT Professional who can:
• Take ownership and responsibility for supporting Executive and VIP customers, ensuring their IT related needs are met to the fullest ability of the department.
• Manage incidents and escalations as appropriate.
• Build and maintain relationships within the organisation and our supply partners.
• Setup and support audio-visual equipment as required.
• Troubleshoot IT related issues.
• Investigate and perform evaluation and testing of new solutions, helping to manage the life cycle of existing services.
• Create and maintain operational processes and supporting documentation.
• Assist the IT Operations team when required with IT related tasks.
• Maintain prompt and clear lines of communication with all parties.
• Assume responsibility and work autonomously in a professional manner.
• Cross team and departmental collaboration.
• Take responsibility for your actions and what is required to deliver a superior service.
• Ensure that a proper professional manner is always presented.
• Perform IT related tasks as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
You’ll have demonstrable skills and experience of:
• A track record of supporting high profile users.
• Both a logical and creative approach to problem-solving, ensuring that the most appropriate actions are taken. You can coordinate with team members to resolve problems as they occur and reduce the chance of them happening again in future.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, to interpret requirements and present findings.
• Strong experience of working with audio-visual technologies (WebEx, Teams) and applications, end user computing and Microsoft technologies.
• Must have either related IT related certifications, a degree or diploma in relevant computer studies or demonstrable, significant experience working in IT.
• Working with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions that meets the user’s needs.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
This isn’t necessary but would be ideal if you:
• Had experience working in high pressure environments.
