The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Irrigation Officer (2 positions) for Titukulane Project to be based in Zomba. The major responsibility of the Irrigation Officer is to assist with planning and implementation and monitoring of the planned irrigation interventions in Zomba District under the Titukulane Project. The Irrigation Officer will be reporting to Irrigation Coordinator and work together with Irrigation Manager based at PMU. S/he will work with the identified project participants to ensure smooth and effective development of irrigation schemes in Zomba district.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in BSC in Irrigation or Agricultural Engineering
• At least 4 years of experience in designs, supervision of construction and operation and maintenance of small and medium scale irrigation schemes.
• Experience in contract implementation and administration
• Experience in smallholder farmer engagement, mobilization and organizational development
• Demonstrable experience of having worked in a multi-faceted project. 
• Demonstrable financial planning and budget management skills.
• Experience in analysing requirements for a new product or service and creating a design to satisfy those needs.
• Ability to identify the most appropriate equipment and tools needed to get a job done.
• Experience in using mathematics and/or statistics to solve problems.
• Ability to identify a problem, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement a solution.
• Experience in conducting experiments using scientific methods.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Very good working knowledge of common office software packages i.e. MS office, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
