Job Description

Role purpose: 

  • Vodafone’s IP Engineering delivers connectivity to enable carrier grade services for customers across Mobile, Fixed, IT, Cloud and Corporate. The IP Engineering spans across all markets in Europe, Egypt and India, and within the Atlantic Cluster we deliver services to the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
  • The team specializes on the Engineering of Core Network IP infrastructure and connectivity within the data centre, and security devices that prevent increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks. We enable projects that require connectivity both within local market and internationally to central data centres, public cloud providers or 3rd party partners.
  • We continuously guarantee the IP network runs with carrier grade service levels by ensuring a design with proper capacity, resiliency and vendor support, always having in mind investments are done efficiently with balanced costs/benefits.
  • We are swiftly transforming the IP network by transitioning into SDN capabilities and programmability to orchestrate services deployment enabling faster time to market, improved resiliency, and supervision.
  • With a design and customer-focused mindset, you will work on a variety of key projects of multiple sizes to deliver IP security nodes ranging from Firewalls, Load Balancers and Proxies to guarantee the network is compliant with Group Security policies.
  • You will act as the Engineering Technical Authority with a design specialism, providing security Subject Matter Expertise at various levels, offering technical insight and design on the several customers’ projects you will participate. 

With us you will: 

  • Design of network security devices and the data centre IP nodes that integrate with the rest of the country network.
  • Definition and delivery of technical solution designs with the appropriate dimensioning, scalability that are cost effective.
  • Creation and maintenance of High Level and Low Level Designs for existing and new infrastructure.
  • Delivery of capacity management/expansion activities in the nodes under scope, in line with directives for the region.
  • Delivery of software upgrades/hardware renewals/infrastructure refresh in the nodes under scope, in line with Planning Design and Dimensioning guidelines.
  • Participate in local demand management forum to analyse and prioritise connectivity requests from customers for domestic and international projects.
  • Manage vendors and system integrators for the implementation of the network and designed connectivity.
  • Interface with regional and local in-country Operations teams to define, plan and schedule network activities and interventions.
  • Being accountable for these activities and analysing/reporting relevant issues concerning risk, cost/benefit, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Report and provide updates on inflight projects, and highlight risks to programme teams.
  • Contribute to the definition and maintenance of the IP Evolution Plan by raising problems not solvable with the current IP architecture and proposing possible solutions.
  • Support management of the IP LAN engineering and delivery budget execution in the cluster countries and active promotion of benchmarking across countries in the cluster, aligning with best applied practises and harmonising design whenever possible

Technical Requirements: 

  • An academic degree and/or at least 5 years work experience in a Telecom / IT organization supporting large heterogeneous IP network infrastructures
  • Solid knowledge of IP network design / architecture
  • Excellent knowledge on some the following network nodes and vendors:
    • FortiNet (FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager)
    • Juniper (SRX, EX, MX)
    • F5 (LTM, GTM/DNS)
    • Bluecoat Proxies
    • Cisco Firewalls/VPN Concentrators (ASA)
    • Cisco Router/Switches (Nexus, iOS, Catalyst)
    • Cisco ACI
    • Tufin
  • Budget management and project planning experience
  • Valid UK Government Security Clearance or eligibility
  • Good Knowledge of IP Security best practices (CISSP certification is a plus)
  • Automation Ansible scripting and Go programming are a plus
